It's been a VERY long time since I got a new computer, so I don't really know what to look for anymore... After a bit of browsing around this evening I found this:

Rock Pegasus 520

Quote
P520-T9550

Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 2.66GHz, 6Mb Cache 1066Mhz
Nvidia Geforce 9650M GT 1Gb Graphics
Hi-res WSXGA+ 15.4" Screen
4GB DDR2 800MHz
250GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
8x Dual Layer +/- DVD-RW
Microsoft® Windows Vista Home Premium

3 Year On-Site Parts & Labour Warranty
£1030.69    £1185.29 inc VAT
or £38.72/month*

Does this seem like good value?

Any recommendations for a decent machine that will allow me to catch up on the last few years of PC gaming and run Unity and Blueberry Garden? Smiley

Rock Pegasus? By name alone it seems like a beast machine.

"Well parrddner, what sort of stead do you ride?"
"I ride a Rock Pegasus. She's the fastest in the land. How about you?"
"Well... I call her Dell..."

£1185.29 though? Eeeeeep... That's nearly two thousand American!

I'm planning to get a loan and pay it back in tiny little pieces over the next 50 years Tongue

Ah, I think that's compared to Rock's other laptops, though.

No, pretty sure it's a MegaMan X boss, if anything.

I bet if you beat it, you get the rock-cannon or something.

Ooohhhh - someone on reddit suggested this - it's a bit cheaper, too:

Sager NP8662

Damn, that's more powerful than my DESKTOP.  Of course, I can't really play Blueberry Garden due to slowdown.

Man, maybe I should buy one of these...  Who, Me?

It's quite a step up from my current laptop Grin Good to know I'm looking at appropriate specs, anyhow.

I dunno man it doesn't have a right mouse button how does that not drive you crazy? Droop

It does. You just leave two fingers on the trackpad and click. It becomes second nature very quickly and becomes much more useful than a two button mouse.

Terry, you already have the beard. It's time to make another change in your life: go Mac!

If your facial hair can be given the opportunity to achieve ultimate beauty in this way, as I am sure it has done, shouldn't your computing experience be allowed the same?

Actually, I was thinking I might turn my old laptop into a Hackintosh!

I'm not sure buying a mac makes a lot of sense for me, given that I'll probably spend most of my time booting into windows to use FlashDevelop and play indie games (the vast majority of which are windows only) Shrug
