Attention TIGers!

It appears it's been about a year since this forum had a music challenge. I know there are plenty of talented folks hiding out here so I thought it would be fun to start a new one.

So here it is:

THE TIGSOURCE MUSICALICIOUS JAM

Here's how it will go down:

-I will Provide a theme for the challenge
-You will be given ONE WEEK to compose a song with said theme
-You will post your song HERE, in the official challenge thread
-People will listen to your song
-They will say good things or bad things about it
-People will cry
-A winner will be chosen.
-The winner will choose the theme for and be the MC of the next challenge.

OK... Are you ready?

The theme of the challenge is...

IRREGULAR TIME SIGNATURES

Compose a piece of music using an irregular time signature, using 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, or 15 beats per measure. Anything that's not a conventional 4/4 or 3/4 beat is cool!

Examples:
Pink Floyd - Money (7/4)
Soundgarden - Outshined(7/4)
Nick Drake - River Man(5/4)
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (15/8)

Required Reading:  (nor really)
Wikipedia article on complex time signatures

Challenge ends September 2, 2009 at 6:00 PM

Any questions? Good! Now get composing!  Beer!Hand Metal Right

original post:

Hey guys.. I've just been looking at old threads, and realized it's been almost a year since this forum has had a music challenge.

I think it would be really cool if we started this up again. It's a fun way to test your compositional skills, and all you need is a fun theme and a few days to work...

So... who else is game?

Have you considered... writing a new song?  I think that submitting something dredged up from your hard drive is against the spirit of the Musichallenge.

No I haven't. I can tell you dislike the song and gesture by your choice of words, if you prefer I will not submit that. Didn't see a serious tone to this thread anyways so sorry if I overstepped.

I'm writing at the moment but it's all for contracted work and I can't submit that since it's against the contracts interests to do so. I will check out the next challenge, hopefully something not in 7/4 or 5/4 Smiley I honestly just don't have many 7/4 songs sitting about at the moment. So yea Sad

Oh dang that's what I was planning on doing. Hmm.
This is actually kind of a weird challenge for me, a lot of the time I have to try NOT to write in weird time signatures, I tend to gravitate towards them a lot :D

I want to do this but may have to sit out this time what with currently finishing up a project and college classes starting on Monday. We'll see. I love irregular meters!

HyperDuck: That song is amazing! I love that stuff!

@Hyper-Duck:  Umm...did you do the music for Iji by chance?  There may be a reason I am asking this question.  >.>

Because then I will have to... 'harvest' anything on your website for my playlist.  Of course, I already know the answer to my question.

Colour me interested*!

I love complex time signatures! I was actually trying to write a song in 9/3 for an EP I was trying to make. Both have thus far languished. If I've got time before the end of next week, I may have another shot at it. What's the official end date, by the way?

@Havok Thanks dude, that's an ancient track but we're currently planning on releasing an Iji medley with a bit of all our tracks in it, oh, yes its for the Iji level in Indie Brawl, so stay tuned for that.

@Aquin I think you know the answer Smiley download away my soundthirsty audio hound! All our project outgoings are updated on the website so  keep following and you'll get a taste of the good stuff, I think if you enjoyed Iji you'll love the TrashMan OST (and SFX, hint)

I should really be in odd time signature mode right now, as I just finished scoring and arranging this track for my ensemble in third year. Shall be fun to play kit on this bad boy:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRst7jAOfAo <3 Jazz.

EDIT: I must apologise, I feel I have derailed this thread from it's most important topic. People get working on those odd time signatures! Best of luck!

Chris.
