thank you so much for releasing a game for mac exclusively  Tears of Joy

this is practically a first in indie games

Let's hope it's not a trend, or instead of targeting the 5% of gamers who care, the indie game market will be targeting a similar 5% of the gamers who probably constitute 20% of the 5% of computer users who run Macs.  Not such good numbers. Wink

Too bad about being Mac-only; it looks really great (love the style!).  I'd suggest building it for other platforms; it shouldn't be that hard unless you're using something that's tying you to that platform.

This is pretty cool for a first release. I still love the look of it, and I wish you would release the athletics game. Runs well on my mac (latest 10.5 release) Don't listen to all the windows weenies, especially for the first couple of versions.

Here are some suggestions:
- the conquest mode is quite a bit more compelling than the arcade mode
- the conquest pads take too long to conquer
- the run cycle could have a bit more bounce to it. It's a bit dead.
- I think you need to add a bit more heft to the death animations too. Some more frames.
- the parachutes look weird and bad.
- it is extremely hard to land safely in a parachute if there are enemies nearby. I suggest the game should drop you near an uncontested blue pad.
- it would be nice in conquest mode if conquered pads would generate blue allies so that you have a chance of landing a parachute near your own conquered zones.
- the game says 'press z' or maybe 'press 2', but these keys seem to do nothing
- now that I mention it, you have probably pushed the legibility of the text a bit too far.
- it seems ridiculously disadvantageous to be uphill from your enemies. Can I suggest adding a grenade feature that you could throw to hit people who are downhill from you?

My opinion means very little, and I'll doubtless be playing the shit out of this as soon a physically possible, but...

...Flat shaded vehicles everything? Beg

yay, thanks a lot kevin.
the background clouds / trees look really good. care if i use them?

flat shaded vehicles would be more true to the overall graphics style, but look not quite as good. but your inline lines are better than the original ones, i should redo leo's sprite.

@bennett: your animation critique is great. all things i should (and hopefully will) take care of. (but getting the gameplay up again is more important for now)
concerning the font: i've been thinking about this for quite a while, guess i'll settle for a more emoticon based approach in the game, and just take the not-fully-legible text and hope it works out.

grenades: definately. must have.

conquest mode: yeah, actually your pads should drop troopers on your side. nex implemented that mode, i don't know why he didn't add that.

"problem" is:
+ i want to switch from python to flash (or approach pure javascript browser-game)
+ that might take a while (specially since university is stressing me out atm, and this semester i can't quite squeeze this in as class project)

So, against my better common sense, I download the game. Then, I extract the archive and look through the contents for the familiar, reasuring form of an exe. I don't find one. To be honest, I knew that this was a mac game, and hadn't been expecting to be able to run it.
But, seeing all those blank, "windows doesn't know what to open this with" files, I had a moment of realisation: This is what mac users feel like ALL THE TIME!

Also, I couldn't get Marathon running. To be honest, 2 out of thousands aint bad.
