The choice of not publishing the games yet is actually strange, because it's the cheapest to solve... I wonder what happened behind the scenes.
That said, organizing events is a dreadful pain in the ass if it's not a company doing it. Many many mistakes are made.
I am happy enough to know that I'm meeting some of you there. Especially given that I live far away from the US, so there's little chance for me to do so.
Good point. I'm excited to see everyone as well, i think it's going to be a lot of fun hanging out with everyone. Thinking about it more, I think my response is really just a factor of this being the first time i'll be speaking in front of an audience about game development. I have a bit of a paralyzing fear about that.

Yeah, I'm all for having a tiny indie party with just developers, but then why do I have to supply them with a load of marketing material they're obviously not going to use properly?
They did the same shit last year, no announcements that I ever saw, not much publicity at all, and no posting of screenshots and stuff on the site. Posting pictures and sending out a couple of e-mails to some blogs should be enough, right?
Maybe they're putting up posters locally or something, though. I know they did have visitors last time around.
Anyway, I have to give them props for offering to fund my trip there, that would've been expensive. But it conflicts with other engagements I have, and I need the money, so no can do.
But still... What the hell are they thinking? All that free publicity they are just letting slip by.

So I just found out about this and that it is being held 30 minutes from where I live but I have no idea if it is worth going. Their site seemed vague on what the seminars were going to be and what is actually going on there. Also I'm not an indie dev but a music guy who likes games. Does anyone have any more info? Should I go?

Indeed you should go, if I lived 30 minutes from there I would. The finalist games are the heart and soul of the IndieCade 2009 Festival. More than two-dozen finalist games are available for gameplay and, whenever possible, gamemakers will be nearby to discuss and demonstrate their innovative games.
• Games will be available for play; October 1 Noon through 7:00 PM, and October 2, 3 and 4 11:00 AM through 7:00 PM .
• Games are exhibited in three neighboring downtown locations (Wonderful World Art Gallery, Culver Hotel Mezzanine, and Gregg Fleishman Gallery).
• Artist talks will be held daily at each exhibition venue. Schedules will be posted at the venues.
• Gamemaker art will be on exhibit at the Wonderful World Art Gallery.
• Complimentary breakfast salons facilitated by gamemakers will be held at the Grand Casino Cafe.

Yeah, I definitely get the impression that the Indiecade people are really disorganized as well. It's impossible to find any real information on their website. Anyways, I'll be there on Sunday. Can't make it Saturday, I have an ADULTCON to attend!

Indiecade is present at Ottawa's International Animation Festival this year:
Mechanics and Metaphor: Designing Independent Games Sunday, October 18, 11:00 am, National Gallery - Auditorium
This year the OIAF is joining forces with IndieCade, a like-minded organization that focuses on independent games and works to cultivate innovation and artistry in interactive media. Join IndieCade organizer Sam Roberts for a panel discussion with several independent gamemakers. The process of making games and their meaning will be discussed. The panel will also look at how to design and exploit rule sets to create emotion, gameplay, and message. Attendees will leave with a sharpened understanding of the work indie gamemakers do, and of the critical and theoretical space behind developing games.
Speakers: Erin Robinson Nathan Vella
Moderated By: Sam Roberts, Festival Director, IndieCade
and
Games Beyond Genre: The Independent Gaming Scene Saturday, October 17, 7:00 pm, National Gallery - Auditorium
This year the OIAF is joining forces with IndieCade, a like-minded organization that focuses on independent games and works to cultivate innovation and artistry in interactive media. This presentation will showcase a selection of games that go beyond what we think of as traditional genres. It will feature demos of major releases such as Flower alongside smaller, more niche, indie games. The presentation will also discuss the current tools and landscape of the indie scene.
I dunno if it's big, but I'm definitely going. I'll be the guy with a skull and bones black shirt and a black and grey striped scarf :D

Just got back from the Sunday talk, I love this kind of stuff, it gets me so jazzed up and excited! Thanks to Sam Roberts of Indiecade, The Ivy, Nathan V of Capybara games and that British fellow that I missed the name of.

That weekend in Ottawa was hella fun. Many thanks to Sam Roberts and Indiecade for making it happen. Nathan V is a super-nice fellow as well, and talking to a non-games crowd made the panel discussion quite fun. I'm glad there was at least one TIGSorceror there to see it.

Thanks to you Erin :D
I was the guy with the skull shirt up front. It was really inspiring and motivating to hear the panel. Since I got back from Ottawa, I'm 100% into making my game project a reality.

indiecade in europe? didn't know about that, to the internet and google. Yeah, they lost our review in a crash as well. Not that big of a deal, but feedback is always a nice thing. They did offer free tickets or something as a compensation though IIRC, but travelling from Norway would have been a bit of a stretch.
