Remember things from your childhood, or from history? They're gone, but I'm interested: what would you bring back, if you could? I'm truly interested, since so many people here are from disparate areas of the Earth and surely have different nostalgia for things.

Machines. Awesome art style, creative units, first person controls, but otherwise a crappy RTS. It died for a reason, but I keep coming back to it occasionally. For those who want to play it, TA spring is basically it except well designed and with a much less awesome art style. AKA it was a total annihilation clone with awesome art. Yeah.

Irresponsibility. I have lost the ability to do nothing of value and still feel good about it.
And an innocent-looking shell. I have lost the ability to hang out with children all day and be accepted as a peer and not look like a pedophile.
Probably most of the rest of my childhood could be recreated today. I still have a child-like curiosity.
And an answer that's maybe closer to what you had in mind: The Marathon Aleph One modding community.

Good cartoons from the 90's. Every now and then I flip through stuff on tv, and I see the cartoons aimed towards kids now-a-days, and they suck.
During my childhood (90's) I remember all these great shows we used to have:
Pinky and the Brain Ren and Stimpy Cat-Dog The Tick Freakazoid Batman: The Animated Series
...My god, the list just goes on, but yeah, that's what I'd want to bring back.

Giant ground sloths.
All the cool dinosaurs wouldn't be able to survive with the oxygen we have now.

Arcades with Metal Slug, Outrun and stuff like that, all my childhood friends, and their amiga 500 Also my gang, we used to do street fights and water (or worse) balloons fights with other kids inside the public park. Oh, and playing soccer on the streets

Flip book animations, particularly in children's books. It looks like it's becoming a lost art.

Arcades with Metal Slug, Outrun and stuff like that, all my childhood friends, and their amiga 500 There is actually a metal slug 3 machine at the horseshoe bay ferry terminal. I play it sometimes, but I die so much They also have pinball machines on the boats, which has always confused me. Just try playing pinball in rough weather on a boat. get a high score, and you can consider yourself a huge badass. Coincidentally, pinball machines are another thing I miss.

HYDROOOOO THUNDEEEERRR
...among other arcade games. My friends and I all found an arcade at a mall up in Cincinnati that had, among other things, two giant Star Wars Pod Racer machines (complete with custom seats), and a House of the Dead 2 cabinet. Good times were had.

Mostly two things. One: The innocent fascination of games. This has been tainted by too much exposure to onlinegames, their communities and the dark pits one involuntarily gazes into when playing games with others. After having received real-life death threats over virtual items and experience points I've lost a lot about the way I looked at games. Two: True Multiplayer. I want coop modes back. Some games are going this route but they're 90% exclusively over the internet so not only you have to buy two games but you're completely detached from the fun aspect of coop games. The few that are still splitscreen are purely for consoles. Blergh.
