Norwegian Wood

Hey TIGers!

Norwegian Wood is a collaboration between a group of Montreal indie game enthusiasts. It's a rhythm-based shmup with gameplay timed to the classic Beatles song; the instruments in the corners fire notes when played. You can download it free for PC, Mac and Linux on the game's website.

Download it here!
Watch the trailer.

(Disclaimer: We can not distribute copyrighted music with the game, so you'll have to acquire your own copy of the mp3 in order to play. It's lame, I know, but that's life.)

Feedback and comments very much appreciated, enjoy!

Hm, couldn't you just skip putting your names on the game and include the song? This is the internet, ya know Cool

Or you could just try to get the rights. I'm sure they're all a reasonable lot over in them Beatles.

I'd love to make a version with Creative Commons licensed music in the future.

That's really a great idea. Sadly I'm quite rubbish at it as with most Shmup-dodging stuff.  Grin

Really neat idea, having the player provide the mp3.

This is alright, though for some reason it didn't really feel like a music game. Sure, the bullets/notes appeared in sync with the music, but the actual dodging part didn't feel the same way.

(Also, I'm pretty bad at this game.)

Once I finished playing, I dragged in Drive My Car. It worked. Perhaps you could check the song length or something so the player doesn't use some other song (unless you don't really mind them having that ability).

That might be tough to implement properly, mp3s of the same song can have different lengths depending on how much padding is added when ripped.

If someone wants to play with a different song, more power to them Coffee

I still really like the idea. Would love to see a larger game with this concept. Do you have any plans of making something like that?

For a while I've been considering doing one myself, but that would probably be far off in the future. Though, if nobody has made something incredibly freaking awesome with this idea by then, I'm definitely going to do it.

There is indeed a lot that could be done with the concept, and I do plan on exploring this in the future.

That being said, I look forward to seeing what you'll do with it too! Gentleman

In light of recent events, No Fun Games is proud to announce:

We will, of course, be replacing John Lennon with this fellow:
