In the frosty north, beneath the wing of a crashed triplane, two rival aces – Lucas Thane, knight of the air, and Imelda von Strassenbach, the Scarlet Baroness – huddle together for warmth.  Love is inevitable.  But what kind of relationship will they have?

Snowblind Aces is a short, replayable adventure/romance game, tangy with the taste of sweet, sweet tiger sauce...

Features:

  • TADS 3 game, interpreters available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
  • Windows executable version also available.
  • A short game with the emphasis on decisions rather than puzzles.
  • Adaptive hint system helps out if you get stuck.
  • State-of-the-art 'English words' graphics system, 100% future proof.
  • Yours for the rock bottom price of COMPLETELY FREE.

10% of all proceeds go to the Icekin Preservation Fund.  Help protect our shared ecological heritage.

Okay, I won't be able to work on this again until after Christmas, so here's your download links:

The .t3 file can be found here - run that with one of the interpreters here.

Alternatively, there's a (zipped) windows executable version that you can find here.  Just download, unzip and double-click.

Current version: 2.  Bug reports and other complaints are welcome.

I'll be back after Christmas to play all the other games in the competition - which, based on what I've seen so far, I'm really looking forward to!  Happy holidays folks.   Smiley

UPDATE:  Version 3 is here, with some small fixes.

You can (hopefully) download the .t3 version from here and the .exe version from here.

Our first brave volunteer in the War on Bugs!  Check your PMs, Nikica, if you haven't already.

Does anyone else have the guts?

EDIT: Let's get rid of that huge image.  Bug reports and suggestions are still very welcome.

OK, this is the first TTA game I've played so far and things are looking good. The bullet review:

    +:
    • impressive number of conversational branches for a short competition game
    • great pair of characters!
    • great setting and scenery
    • excellent writing

      -:
      • equally to be expected in a short competition game, some conversation topics don't reflect the current state of the game very well; for example, try asking about us/feelings a couple of times once you get to the triplane.
      • some of the pacing felt a little slow, in the parachute fall and once you hit the ground. Maybe spice it up with another exciting event.

Overall I think this had great style. You know, this would work really well as a visual novel, with flashback-y images during the conversation topics. Thanks for a fun game!

      Thanks OldGrover and george!  Smiley

some conversation topics don't reflect the current state of the game very well; for example, try asking about us/feelings a couple of times once you get to the triplane.

I did actually have that very example down in my notes for version 4.  I wasn't sure if I could get away with leaving it as it was, but I suppose it won't be that difficult to add some AltTopics.  The potential for doing that kind of thing in Tads 3 is enormous, but as you point out, I only had two weeks.  Wink

some of the pacing felt a little slow, in the parachute fall and once you hit the ground. Maybe spice it up with another exciting event.

Good point.  I hoped I'd got away with it, but typing 'z' several times is never fun.  I could probably cut the descent altogether, but maybe something neat could happen... like a bird attack or something. :D

Really good. I like the characters, the writing and even the pacing very much. I don't think there's anything else that should be added - after all, this is a game more about conversation than about action, right? Smiley

By the way, I got 7/7 points in 100 turns. Tongue

That's about the first time I ever became interested in a text-based game.
