http://armorgames.com/play/4654/harvey-tumblestump-episode-1it's me or this game uses both spelunky ground tiles and the jump and shoot soundfx? the worst thing is that this dude actually made money, as it's sponsored by armor games...

At first, I was like, "Mmmmaybe," then I saw the cave bits. Yeah, there's no way that's anything but Spelunky.

I actually don't think it's too bad if people use other people's tiles and so on, it's like remixes of songs, it's cool to see stuff circle 'round the internet and see old pieces of art be used again. But, that is on two conditions: -Be creative. If you use someone else's idea but you own graphics/sounds, that's boring but OK. If you make up a never seen idea and use a scramble of graphics and stuff found on the internet that's cool, it has that awsome internet anarchy feel to it. But for heavens sake don't steel both idea and material! -Don't make money out of it. Since this fails in both conditions, I'll have to give it two facepalms and two thumb-downs. May Tim Langdell sue your soul

what was that unique twist the description talked about? The darkness thing? thats been done like a million times before. that would be like basing an entire game off of the obligatory sewer stage or something

Clearly "inspired" by Spelunky but it's not a direct rip of the cave art assets if I understand the posters so far.

Wow, yeah you're right. It's weird because it really looks like it's from a different game to the rest of the graphics. Ah well. Sorry! (Derek)

He must have used the sprites from Spelunky as a reference. But the game itself is a poorly executed copy of Closure.

The spritework is so inconsistent, making it hard to believe it was done by the same person. Gotta agree that he simply edited Spelunky's tileset. Even the enemies are the same; from the little i played I noticed the PURPLE BAT.

It's like saying Spelunky is a ripoff of La mulana, because of the in-turn ripoff of Indiana Jones. C'mon, it's a different gameplay and has some similarities because it's a platformer. End of story. No edge grabbing, always have a gun, no explosions, a straight-forward platformer. Are you kidding me? look at the ground tiles, they're completly different. Of course they have the same colouring and color count. I wonder why he used brown for dirt... perhaps because dirt is brown? I've read a 8bit color tutorial from AdamAtomic, and he says that lots of games use the redish-blueish or viceversa combination for foreground-background tiles because of an eye biological effect which enhances differentiation of depth. I don't want to sound offensive, but go play some games and read some articles before bitching. With love -Martín

they're completely equal, flipping the tile and changing a bit the shape of some rock doens't make any difference. If i start to pixel a rocky tile there's almost no possibility i'll end up with it looking so close to spelunky one. He took a screengrab and ripped off it, changing a bit the tones and some minor stuff. when you play the game and enter the cave you just CAN'T think anything but "Hey wait, this cave is from spelunky", then you jump around and shoot hearing the very same effects and you just do 2+2
