This thread is not about a game, It is about a movie, Paranormal Activity, a movie written, directed, and produced by one guy, Oren Peli. In all sense, I consider this movie Indie. If anyone has seen the movie, the first thing that pops into the mind is, simple progressive narrative can beat million dollar GFX effects if done right. Is it possible to translate this sense of suspense and horror in games ?

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I have no idea whether or not it's actually any good. There was one really quiet bit in the trailer that scared the crap out of me, though: Right after this dizzying blur of random clips, the trailer shows a simple normal shot of the couple asleep in bed. The bedroom door opens just a tad, and quietly, some invisible thing lifts up the covers.

So, maybe more survival games should try quiet scary bits, rather than just going for the traditional jump scares.

I think the sole reason why those quiet bits are considered scary is because you KNOW when everything goes quiet a jumpscare will be right around the corner.
