Thanks for the explanations, that all makes sense.
At least I still prefer original background music. It shouldn't be too repetitive, of course, but if it's good I likely won't mind hearing the same tracks over and over again Smiley

Yeah, I'd like more music, too.  It's just that pesky space limitation, since we'd need like 7 more songs.  And that's just to have one song per set of levels.

You should do like all the really good games do - if music is playing on the iPod, turn off music volume. If it's not, set music volume to regular music volume.

OK so been playing this for about a week and basically at the end.

This was great, one of like three iPhone games I'd unhesitatingly recommend to someone at this point. Everything works together well. The controls are well suited to the iphone, the level design showcases the controls well, the framing/writing presents the levels well. I like that the levels are subtly designed for replayability.

I would have been a bit curious to see what a version with music would have been like. It would have helped a lot in differentiating the levels, I think. Not sure how one gets around the 10 MB problem. Actually I'm now sort of worried about what I'm going to do about that issue for the soundtrack in my own game. Problematic Epileptic

FYI One more nitpicky bug report: Twice over the course of playing this I was able to trigger some sort of bug where, while simultaneously moving upward and smashing sideways into a crumbling wall (once via a swing, once via the boots), I was actually able to somehow go up through the ceiling and get stuck there. I was able to walk back and forth inside the ceiling but couldn't get back down.

If you're on a Macintosh and want to develop a multi-platform game, here is some sample code you might find useful.

We'd be able to duck below the 10 meg limit if we got a musician that can work in .mod (or equivelant) format.  We're looking into it, more music is requested quite often.  I thought a lack of music could be forgivable on an iPhone, since it's presumably full of music anyway.  In hindsight, I have to admit that more music would add to things.

Hideous: I could have sworn we did that already.  I'll check, I may be confusing the dev version (working on next update) with the full version.

Grapefrukt, mcc: Yeah, that's the Bug That Will Not Die.  I think we finally have that bug fixed with the first update we're working on.  Also fixed: Sometimes your hook magically latches into thin air.

I've been starting to leak out more about what's going to be in the first update for the game.  Three big features are planned, along with various small requests and tweaks.

The first of these three features was announced on SlidetoPlay.com today: New character.  You'll be able to swap your player character, Jake, out for the girl that saves you at the end of each level, Gunny.  Both characters get their own set of hats and a couple of unique items for each character.  Jake gets a lava-mulligan item and Gunny gets more ammo capacity.  This also sets the groundwork for more characters in the future.

The music fits perfect and it looks like real fun to use the hook!
I would love to play this, but I don't have an iPhone.
Will there be a PC-Version or a port to other mobile devices?

This game looks like awesome fun, can't wait to try it out! The sensation of speed reminds me of the 2D sonic games, which is definetly a good thing Grin
I'd like to see a longer gameplay trailer too, maybe playing a level from start to finish, or just with longer sections of gameplay inbetween cuts.

I'm also curious how you managed to take such a nice-looking video of it; is it screencapped from the simulator, or have you discovered some magic trickery to get the iThing to record video? I'm just about to release my own iPhone game, and haven't been able to find any way to make gameplay videos without pointing a shakycam at the screen...

Screencapped from simulator.  Best way we could figure out to do things.

I'd like to port it some day.  For the PC version I'd probably give the player more air control and control over the player when swinging from the rope, but take away the ability to shoot the hook in any direction but up or diagonally outwards 45 degrees.  That would probably work pretty well.

There's no plans to port it anytime soon, though.
