One of my favorite roguelikes I thought was dead, namely Doom: The Roguelike, has received a major update two days ago. The additions include new character "traits" (skills), new items, a "medal" (achievement) system, etc. etc. For a full list of changes, click here and download here |

After reading the doom comic the doomguy character scares me to no end. They should have given him duke nukem style voice acted quotes taken from the comic in doom 3; it would have made things interesting. Anyway, it might be time to give the DoomRL a try and finally confront my demons once and for all. |

Yeah, normally I avoid roguelikes due to boredom on my part. I just ain't got patience when I could be distracted by pretty bells and whistles in other genres. BUT DAMN THIS GAME IS AWESOME I can't even...man it's just so...   |

It's also fucking hard on harder difficulties. I have no idea how anyone could get all the Diamond badges in a single lifetime. |

Just played it for the first time for the better part of today. I have one word, uh, emote: Spelunky popped my procedurally-generated cherry so I thought I'd take a rougelike for a spin. It's simple and elegant, and a great intro to the genre. |

It's a great game alright, but damn difficult. On the easiest difficulty setting i've only once managed to get to the final level and couldn't quite take out the final boss (armed with a BFG and advanced, modded rocket launcher). On the harder difficulty settings I get mauled quite quickly.
My favourite perk tree is shotguns -> army of the dead.
