off on an adventure

So I have recently (and somewhat embarrassingly) been playing Viva Pinata. Its pretty good, although it can get a bit tedious and frustrating (I give it 7/10 or so) so I'm ready to move on. I was thinking I want to adventure into the realm of the garden/farming simulator game which I think has a pretty steady history, but its one that I don't really know much about.

The only other garden simulators I've played (that I can think of at the moment) are Cultivation and Harvest Moon (and its various sequels and clones). I've done minimal amounts of research and come up empty handed.

I was wondering if anyone here could think of any games of this genre, preferably on the PC so I can play them, but for any platform just for my own edification.

So?

SimFarm, of course (go for the orange groves, the path to riches).

You might like Plant Tycoon, which is essentially a DNA/breeding plant game.

Back to Nature and the original are the best.

There's nothing that really fits this yet. I have a game design that does, but don't have the cojones to make it yet.

What you really want is a kind of Sim City for gardens, yeah? Cos I really think there's a nice to be filled there, definitely.

YES. Get Rune Factory if you're going for a DS one, though.
As for the GBA... Get Friends of Mineral Town.

Holy cats!

I used to be a natural farmer!

I had an (uncertified) organic garden and everything!

They make games based on stuff like that?

I must have been having more fun than I realized.

Yeah, Harvest Moon DS sucks, Rune Factory is far superior.
Friends of Mineral Town is just a remake of the PSX one with less festivals, ain't it?

Not really. This one was endless, and was semi-related to A Wonderful Life.

This kind of reminds me that I've had an artist waiting for me to finish my part of a cultivation game for months. I should probably get back to him one of these days.

Well, it's a different experience when you're just clicking stuff. If I ever decide to make casual games I'll do one based on a job I once had, which was hectic and stressful but would make the transition perfectly.

I LOVE HARVEST MOON!

I definitely suggest the Harvest Moon games over all else and if you don't want to buy a DS or gameboy you could just download a GBA emulator or something. Those are for computer!

Harvest Moon, for me, sucks all the life out of what could be a fun gardening game. It's just a ridiculously boring grind from day to day, and everything is done so that you can make a profit from it. I really can't stand it, but the RPG presentation of Rune Factory and the fantasy setting makes it much more palatable for me, and I'm interested in playing it. But I don't think any of these games listed so far give a good sense of gardening as an activity at all; they are about farming (even if it's farming flowers).

Oh man.

If farming games are growing a cult following, I need to cash in.

I should learn to program stuff. I'd be a shoe in for mass, cultish success!

"You have four acres of organic garden. The yield thus far is SQUASH. The corn was promising earlier in the year, until Old Alan's cows broke loose and ran many miles down the deserted road to eat it.

In your pantry, you have one eight pound can of beans and one small can of Beans N' Bacon soup that's been there since you inherited the house. Also, there is an industrial tub of floor polish. You're not sure how it got there, or why.

Do you:

A.) Neglect Garden
B.) Fire up the rattletrap and head to town
C.) Turn in for the day?"
