Beat it (including collecting trinkets) in ~3h. Certainly one of the best games I've played in quite a while. The difficulty was a little unevenly distributed, with most passages being pretty easy and a few of them hard as hell (hint: famous quote by J. Caesar), which is both a good and a bad thing.

You've done an excellent job, and it's well worth the $15. Anyone complaining about the price of the game is expecting too much these days. I would much rather have a game that is short (though long enough to be a commercial release, which this is... I wouldn't pay $15 for 5 minutes unless it was the best 5 minutes ever) than a game that is needlessly long. That is, after all, one of the things that made Don't Look Back memorable for me. It was as long as it needed to be, and no longer. This game I feel is the same.
To be quite fair, a movie ticket here is like $16! I'm getting more enjoyment out of this than I get out of most movies I see.

I guess it's because most people still see games as "products", and not as creative works (or artworks, if you will). They make their purchase decisions for games much the same way they would make them for toothpaste or milk, which is on a kind of comparative(?) "value for money" basis.

For every two people complaining about the price there is probably at least one person who buys it at that price.

Can't wait for the Linux version. I keep playing the demo because I'm too lazy to boot into Windows!

Ah but CAsinclair, that comparison to things like Toothpaste is exactly why I feel comfortable buying things at certain prices. "$15? That's too much. Oh hey look a block of chocolate for $5. Hang on a minute..."
I spend my money very carefully, and all things are judged on the same standard. For V, I could have waited, but instead chose to buy it now at $15, because playing it while everyone is talking about it is part of the experience as well. Later on, you may get it for $10, but then it's much more of an isolated sense of enjoyment. This communal sense of enjoyment is especially important with a game of V's nature, because satisfaction is part of the experience. Being able to finish something, and then go "man I had this experience on this level", and have people respond with their experiences is part of what makes things so fun. I wouldn't, however, finish a level in World of Goo and then go "oh man my solution was awesome!" to anyone.

Just played the demo on Kongregate. I liked it quite a lot! It's very well-designed. I have a fairly limited attention span for difficult platformers, though, and while I enjoyed the five minutes I spent playing VVVVVV, I was fully satisfied by those five minutes, and didn't particularly want more. So I stopped playing--but not before telling everyone to stop whining about the price tag and just buy the thing if they like it.

Finished VVVVVV yesterday. Total 2 hours of play, 931 deaths, 14 trinkets. I suck! The game's great. Clever level design kept the game fresh, while the music and the friendly dialogue kept it light hearted all along. Great, great work. I hope you can keep creating games without having another job.

The CGA style and intro was awesome.
