Hi everyone, First time posting, but I want to help make this compretition a success! I'm trained as an illustrator and I've never really made any games besides a few flash toys in school, and tabletop games. I love dungeon crawls so I'll be making some big beautiful hand-painted sprites for battle scenes, but they could also be modified for portraits too.

You need to do a lot of these, and maybe some environment panels/tiles, because I need me an open sourced, first-person dungeon crawler so bad.

I added 3 more monsters this afternoon, but now I'm off for work. I just want to get a comfortable head start. I want to make as many as possible in the time we have. I'm going to try to stick to a couple of narrow themes so that some ceherent story could be built around them.

Let me know what you think. Yes, I know theres this line crossing the shadow, I'll correct it soon!

Hey guys, finished two more before bed. Hopefully I can average 1+ per day. I'll try to include lots of favorites by the end. I also put up a new version of the shadow, which doesn't have the offending pencil line anymore.

I hope so too! While they would be perfect for a first person dungeon crawl in the Wizardry vein, many more typical 8 and 16 bit RPGs and series used first person battles as well. Dragon Quest, Earthbound, Lufia, FF Mystic Quest, Phantasy Star, and 7th Dragon, all come to mind immediately. These are meant to be useable in any fantasy RPG. Or maybe a "light gun" type game?

They look great. Some one could easily make a rail shooter with these if you provided death animations.

These wouldn't work for a light gun game. Light gun games require a lot of animation. You need to have enemies duck around cover and have various ways of attacking the player and dying.

But that's not the point. These are RPG monster sprites. They're meant to be static pictures of the enemy you are fighting. Think old school Wizardry or Dragon Quest style.

A small request. Could you make some textures as well? For pseudo 3D first person dungeon crawls, it'd be nice to have some nice matching castle textures or cave walls or dirt textures for the floor, stuff like that.

Oh and again, I love the art so far. Really awesome stuff. Gentleman

I'm loving these right now as I speak. That's right.

Might even use some of them (the shadow and the mind flare/flayer are excellent).

Thanks for the encouragement so far. I'll be making 1 or 2 today, and I've a couple days off this week to pick up the pace. I was able to finish preliminary sketches this weekend for a number of characters.
