It's like they've taken the best from Diablo 1 and 2 and put it in a new game. There's the barest sense of innovation. It's so unoriginal it's almost a crime. I think it's fucking great! There goes my personal dev schedule...

Hah, that's probably the best review for a game I've heard in a long time I'm one of those guys who think that Blizzard is run by fans and Activision-suits these days, so I'm glad that the original crew is still making Blizzard games

Looks like D2 + Warcraft 3 engine.
So, it's pretty Blizzard, I guess.

I'm pretty sure if they scrapped the MMO-in-2-years idea and "just" gave this the online functionality Diablo 2 had they'd essentially be rolling in money.

It's fun, problem is, I dunno if it's durable...I'll be watching it, and if the price falls to 10€ or something I might get it.

Also made by that guy who made Fate, and has a bunch of that stuff that's in Fate (pet, retirement, fishing).
Haven't tried it, but it looks kind of cool. Bugs me a little that it hasn't got multiplayer, but chances are I'll pick it up...

By the guy who made Fate? That's cool to hear. Fate has a nice features palette which I really enjoyed, hm...

Played it and didn't even endure until the end of the demo. The only thing that means is this: If you were already bored by Diablo 2 and even more so by all its clones, Torchlight won't be any different for you. The presentation is nice, though.

It's literally a cross between Diablo and Fate, and it looks very comptetent at that. But no of multiplayer in a hack and slash game?

Has anyone played it like a lot or so?
I've seen a couple of trailers, and it looked kind of neat, showing off cool special moves that do lots of fancy positional stuff (knockbacks, running around hitting enemies in your path, stuff like that). I think Diablo is fairly cool, but I'd like the action-game part of it to be awesomer, requiring more complicated tactics and so on. And from the trailers, it looks like Torchlight is maybe on the right track. But then they're trailers and it might turn out that awesome shit like that is completely useless and you're better off just standing over there and clicking.
(I've played Fate only a little bit, so I don't know what to expect from that influence apart from dogs (dogs are awesome))
And I'm cool with no multiplayer. I can imagine a diablolike being worth playing without multiplayer. It'd be cool to have is all.

Played another half hour - I always want to like these games more than I end up doing I think. Maybe I should try borderlands instead. I kind of feel like there are too many buttons to press and things to think about.
I like the fishing though. Maybe a few more interesting mechanics would have helped the game grab me more? I don't think I'll give up on it just yet anyway.

Why the bashing on Torchlight? I think it's a fine-looking game, with a fresh visual style. Yes it looks simple, like a Diablo for noobies, but what's wrong with that?

I hated Diablo but enjoyed Fate and Titan Quest (plus expansion) a lot in comparison. So can't wait to get my hands on Torchlight, have been waiting for something like Fate for a long time (not the crappy expansion they released).
I like that it has mod tools. That will definitely help them grow faster than any other RPG out there at the moment.
