Much better than the last one which was a two floor dungeon filled with scary-ass monsters that raped all the potions right out of me.
I just had a similar situation with my new Vanquisher a couple minutes ago. It was in one of those optional dungeons the guy near the waypoint portal in town gives you and I entered a room filled with two boss mobs who were the same level as me as well as a fucking ARMY of regular enemies. I easily burned through 50 potions in that fight.  :D

And yeah, on topic of the patch: Loading times have been heavily improved. The game now loads about twice as fast for me. Some loading times are still longer than they should be though, like when you return to the main dungeon via TP after clearing out an optional dungeon. Also, enchantments are still overpowered.

I HAD the latest driver, but checking now I see an update. I'll install it and see what happens.

Still slow loading for me...
I'm kinda glad they toned down the enchantments, it makes the rare weapons a bit more special now.

Upgrading my drivers did precisely jack shit.

Playing the game under Windows 7 shows some good performance improvements somehow, but also vsync problems even with vsync on.

Maybe something to do with Win7 then? I'm on XP, and as I said before it runs perfectly smooth for me.

I can't stand the vsync issues. Having a constantly shaky screen is far more painful than random stutters.

i impulse bought this last night because i had 20$ left in my account.

sucked me right in.
i usually cant stand PC games but this one plays so nice.
the attacks feel very satisfying to use.
especially criticals, which my alchemist pull off something like a third of the time now.

no multiplayer is not an issue.
i thought it would be at first, then i remembered i never play multiplayer anything.
altho it would be nice to throw in there in a patch at some point.

Multiplayer is usually a very complex thing to code. Unless the game is built from the ground up with multiplayer in mind, adding it must be six types of painful.

Also, they have a (possibly free) MMO version planned, so there's your multiplayer.
At first I thought lack of multiplayer was gonna be an issue, since Diablo 2 is one of the very few games I ever thoroughly enjoyed playing online, but Torchlight turned out to be lots of fun alone anyway.

After you beat the boss it's not really worth playing further. Better make another character, everything else is just linear killing and plundering. I mean, it's just nicer to have predefined enemies and levels connected within a story... You know there's a boss below... makes it much more exciting than storyless grinding. Even if the story is just short/bad/stupid/trivial, it really is boring without. I think I'll start playing a knight next tuesday.

Another strange thing is, I see no better items anymore. Maybe they're better on harder difficulties? Collecting sets just to look cool again isn't the most interesting activity I can think about.

Yeah, the items just aren't very interesting. I often found myself using the same piece of armor for 10 levels, for example.

To be honest, I simply clicked through most of the dialogue and have no idea what the story even really is.  :D
But I do agree it's more interesting to work towards a definite goal of completing the game rather than just trying to max everything out and get the best possible gear. I'd actually prefer if they let you play through the story again with the same character on each difficulty, a la Diablo.

I agree. Even without a story, having a set of goals that are predefined helps with playing through the game. Even if the plot was just "kill the big bad evil guy", which it practically is here, it's better than "grind and little else".

I guess that's why I never got "addicted" to WoW. But then again, one of my favorite games is Dwarf Fortress and that has no set goals, even though you could construe it as being a survival game in a way.

I thinkthe fact is that games like Torchlight tend to be simplistic. They don't give you constantly unique and engaging decisions to make. With a clear goal, there doesn't seem to be any reason to continue.

DF, on the other hand, is a game that, once you get the hang of it, tends to give you constantly unique decisions to make, what with how gameplay changes as your population grows bigger.
