Hello TIGSource!  Just wanted to let everyone know that a new game design tutorial video is out.  This one is about techniques to tell a story in you games.

As always, feel free to provide feedback!  I enjoy praise as well as criticism, because both help me improve these game design tutorials.

Click here to check it out on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVu-fluuRrM

Thanks!  Smiley

That was worth the short watch. He demonstrated quite clearly how to take an extremely boring game and spice it up to hold the players interest (at least for a while). Now, apply this to a more in depth game and you have a winner.

"Drops fall from the sky, and the player needs to click them in order to defend the bug.  If the bug gets hit then he dies, and the game is over.  Now, this is a fairly decent game already..."

WTF

Sure, the game is decent! As stated in the first video, it's just a matter of adding more layers Smiley

I actually watched both the tutorial videos before seeing this post. I even quoted the first video in this discussion today: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=9023.msg282068#msg282068

You really succeed at illustrating your points. The minimalistic approach is great. Click a star. Click many stars. Write some text. Write some more text. I really felt with Jennings and Harold at the end. After each video I felt "ah, so that's how you do it!".

I'm really looking forward to the next video. Have you decided what it will be about?

HAHA!  That's a happy face if I ever saw one!

Point taken; it's more of a kindergarten game.  But hopefully enough to illustrate the point.
