they make sure we all know that designing games is most certainly an artist job because programmers have no imaginations.

Thats the same problem I'm having! Althought I just found this http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20051026/gabler_01.shtml and this http://www.etc.cmu.edu/projects/experimentalgameplay/images/ExperimentalGameplayPostmortem.pdf.

Both of which are helpful to me as I'm hoping to do some work on the Experimental Gameplay Project as part of my research.

Well for a project like this you probably can get easy primary sources by interviewing a lot of indie game developers.

Yeah I'm planning on asking some developers some questions.

I'm struggling to find relevant books though, and apparently I really need references from books :/
