as some of you are aware i have a project called The Free Indie Project (http://thefreeindieproject.blogspot.com/ or check out the post in the announcements section of TIGS)

some posters recommend making a good looking cover for it but i disagreed for cost reasons. but pgil, dacke and agj convinced me that there is a way. so now im taking lokijki advice and making a competition.

Rules:
1a) you must incorporate this title it:
The Free Indie Project
free games made by independent developers
vol 1: "the best of free indies"

b) you can change the font and pretty much do whatever with it as long as it is legible

2) no color other than black and white may be used at all.

3a) the size must be >= 20cm by 20cm
b) and please make the canvas a square because it will be compressed into one.

5) other than these rules you are free to do draw whatever you want and whist this is not essential it would be nice if you kept it somehow related to the theme of "the best of free indie". interpret it anyway you want. feel free to use any medium to make your artwork.

and what kind of competition will this be without a prize:

well the winner chosen by me or maybe a public vote (i haven't decided yet) will have their work on the cover first ever The Free Indie Project CD! they will also be mentioned in the credits and whatever else they want to be mentioned i.e personal website, email address etc.. so i guess you can consider this free advertising. they will also receive a copy of the cd. and maybe have their picture on a 20 by 20 cm poster that might be included in the cds (haven't decided if i should make theses)

post your entries here or send them to me along with your name, email address and your website (if you want) at [email protected] and ill post them here.

competition over =[

i cant believe no one entered =[

I suggest you ask the game creators and their artists themselves to see if they would be interested in making the cover, considering that you're promoting their work. Also, see if you get featured on the front page or something with more exposure.

Isn't a standard CD booklet/inlay more like 15x15 cm? Also, don't forget you'll probably want a place to put all the credits and other info, so you probably want a double-sided 45x15 cm sheet that you can fold twice into three (or six, if you're counting both sides) squares. Or a 30x30 cm sheet that you fold into four/eight squares. The second option would be cooler because you could have a 12" LP-sized artwork on the back, but the first option would probably incur lower production costs.

yeah i know 15 by 15 is the standard and i will shrink it to that size. but i decided to include a 20 by 20 poster because that the biggest squarish size i can get from an a4 paper and i figured it would look cool if you had like a whole collection hanging from your wall forming a massive poster. it would be cool if i could do a 12' sized artwork but it would cost too much so im stick with a4..
