http://www.dantesinferno.com/home.actionThis is an affront to art. Of all the tasteless, worthless games to come out in the last 10 years this one takes the cake for me. Dante Alighieri would be rolling in his grave. I for one, will not support this game in any way, shape, or form, and I implore you to do the same. EDIT: And no, I'm not some devout christian or anything.

I... why are you actually specifically boycotting it? Were you going to buy it otherwise? I certainly was not.
It's not a boycott if you aren't the target audience anyway.

Either you're astroturfing on behalf of EA, or you'd be better off not posting this at all. Sorry, that sounds harsh, but I can't think of a friendlier way of saying it. My point is that writing stuff like this just makes me want to check it out. If it's really that bad, just ignore it and it will go away (disclaimer: this is not a solution to all life's problems, but does tend to work for shitty computer games).

I wouldn't mind playing it just for its ridiculousness. I don't see why it needs boycotting though. The work is in the public domain, and we've already seen some decent, proper games based on it. What's so bad about this piece of shit? Well, other than the fact that it's shit.

Until someone explained it to me, I had no idea why you wanted to boycott it.
Seems a little fish as well. If you're willing to boycott this game, I don't think you've played many indie games...

I'd think, though, that it would be more in order to boycott EA in totality, not just Dante's Inferno. After all, it's the company that decided to advertise like that, not the game itself. I'd understand not buying any more EA games until they make an apology, but it would be pretty hypocritical to only avoid this game.

I would like to point out that boycotting something is currently trendy, so just go with the flow you guys.

Right now only videogamers are angry becuase they're the only one's who pay attention to video game news and know it exists. As soon as it comes out there will the an asston more people complaining.

They did apologize, they made a contest where you send in pictures with booth babes, something that happens anyways, and also made the language more fitting in the context of their game. The Internet decided that EA was asking its fans to abuse and rape the booth babes and send them pics. Every subsequent marketing gimmick has been neat, but people feel the need to hold EA's feet over the flames for supposed injustices in prior Dante's Inferno attempts. I mean, they even gave a prize to the dude that does GayGamer. You shouldn't play Dante's Inferno because it looks like a God of War knock off, but I try not to write off games before I have a chance to play them. Also, why do people hate clever advertising?

I didn't say I agreed, I just meant I would understand where they're coming from.
But yeah, I think the advertising is actually pretty cool. Obviously EA wouldn't ask one to do something illegal (well, not something obviously illegal; see brass knuckles issue), and at worst their marketing is as silly as the game itself.
I think the only thing possibly really bad is the whole "bribing the critics" (as some people put it) thing with the check, but that's actually turned out more interesting and funny than evil and depressing.
Personally I think the game is shit and is probably a waste of resources that could be put towards making different, better games, but the advertising is neat. I think more games should have such in-depth marketing.

I wouldn't give two damns about this game if it weren't called "Dante's Inferno".
Hey look, mainstream culture! A video game adaptation of a classic poetic work! See how far we've come as a medium, we can do more than make bullshit games about violence and "being a badass" and pre-pubescent sex fantasies!
Oh, wait

Thing is, when you need that kind of elaborate marketing, it's usually a sign that the game is kinda mediocre.
