I wouldn't give two damns about this game if it weren't called "Dante's Inferno".
Hey look, mainstream culture! A video game adaptation of a classic poetic work! See how far we've come as a medium, we can do more than make bullshit games about violence and "being a badass" and pre-pubescent sex fantasies!
*shrug* I agree the name is pretty bad, but it's not like other games have way better names. "Prince of Persia". Oh, I'm sure this will about politics in ancient Persia and- oh wait no it's just some game about jumping off walls and killing sand demons. I still don't like the name "Dante's Inferno", but it's not like this alone will tarnish the face of gaming for years to come. Countless others are doing so already.

God of War took Greek Mythology and made it awesome and badass, I don't really see why we can't have this here too. Also, isn't there already an adventure game based on Dante's Inferno? By the guy who did Les Miserables I think? Edit: http://enterthestory.com/Divine_Comedy.htmlThat.

Probably shouldn't have written that starting post in such haste.
Basically what I was trying to say is:
Not only are the developers dealing with one of the most important religious texts in history, they're doing so with complete abandon, completely destroying the entire point of the story so they can have a shallow, plotless contender to God of War. This is the final straw in EA's attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I know that many gamers will buy just to be ironic, but the last thing this game should receive is success. It is obvious just from the marketing and with interviews with the devs that they don't give a flying fuck about The Divine Comedy, they want a tasteless game about blood, violence, and lots, lots of sex. I'm not trying to be trendy by boycotting; and for all I know boycotting might have the opposite effect. I just really, really don't want to see this game get a sequel.
And the Cross on my avatar is supposed to be ironic, not taken seriously.

Sorry 'bout that. It was just an assumption, and a fairly "neutral" one at that. God of War took Greek Mythology and made it awesome and badass, I don't really see why we can't have this here too. Because Greek mythology has always been "awesome and badass", or at least has always had certain elements that would lend themselves to being turned into an action game. The Divine Comedy doesn't have that at all. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the game "shouldn't be made" or something, there's just a few things about it that rub me (and as it seems a bunch of other people) the wrong way.

Dude, I don't know if I can take the forth paragraph seriously when you start the third
"Not only are the developers dealing with one of the most important religious texts in history, they're doing so with complete abandon,"
But, I don't hold any affinity for religion, to me, this is as much of an affront to my sensibilities as "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies"

Not only are the developers dealing with one of the most important religious texts in history In a way you missed the point of the story then. they're doing so with complete abandon, completely destroying the entire point of the story so they can have a shallow, plotless contender to God of War.
Hey, they killed the point behind Scarface too. And Age of Empires 2 certainly butchered quite a few bits of history for the sake of his campaigns. This is the final straw in EA's attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Oh my GOD, the dramaa! And the Cross on my avatar is supposed to be ironic, not taken seriously.

Why should Christian texts be given any precedence over others, like Greek or Norse? I think I want to make an action game based on the life of Jesus. I can call it "Christ: The Reckoning."
The prequel will be "Abraham's Fury."

"Christ: The Reckoning."
MAKE THIS! "Body of Christ Muther Fukker" - as Jesus power slams a landshark I really don't see the big deal with Dante's Inferno. I mean, I'm not going to buy it, but it looks like mindless fun. Nothing wrong with that. It is what it is.

I think it's about god-damned time somebody took the piss out of Dante's Inferno. That book has been the cause of centuries of negative thinking. Instead of "If you go to church, you'll go to heaven", it became "If you don't go to church, you'll rot in hell for all eternity". It encouraged about as many bad changes in Christianity as I think any book ever could, from tolerance to intolerance, from love to fear. Instead of convincing people to join God because they would be forgiven for their sins, they are instead told that if they don't convert now they'll suffer eternal torment. I'm glad someone would make a game that shows just how trivial Dante's Inferno really is: a book about how the big bad ookey man will make you sad if you aren't a devout little christian.

I take you really haven't read much of the Old Testament, Valter. God was very fond of the praise me, or suffer eternal torment, even before your deatth.
In many ways, the New testament attempted to hippie-fy the whole thing. Kind of ignored since the whole crusades, to be honest.

While the old testament does have a lot of "worship me or suffer", Dante took the chance to describe every single level of hell in excruciating accuracy, showing you exactly how you will be tormented for all eternity if you sin.
Inferno gave preachers everywhere the opportunity to convert people by making them fear god, rather than love god. I do not consider it to be a text worthy of much praise.
