Yo, we're making a game. It's just about done, but now that all the progress highlights and new screenshots are starting to get interesting I figured it was devlog time. So here goes. In another world, another universe, humans are fleeing. The time for a hero has passed, and the cities are falling to the hordes of machines overrunning them. The humans have gathered in key locations and are fleeing on ships that will launch them into space, in search of a safer place to live. You are one of many brave MSD pilots who have given up their own chance of survival in order to protect these key locations for as long as possible, so that the ships may take off. Luckily, the robotic MSDs are armed with heat-seeking missiles, and quite plentiful since you don't have to worry about preserving them. What you have to worry about is getting out in time! If the hordes destroy your MSD, you are done for, but luckily they have been armed with a self-destructing eject device. So when things get nasty, you can blow it to smithereens and take a few enemies with you. But when you are outside of your MSD, you are extremely vulnerable, and have to avoid being killed before another is dropped in for you to use. Every time you destroy one, it'll take a bit longer for the next to arrive, and the action only heats up more and more as the game progresses. Here is a video of the game so far in-action. This was partly a speed-test, so halfway through the video I spawn a lot of enemies, mostly to see if the FPS will drop at all with hundreds on screen at once. It didn't I will be doing regular video and screenshot updates, so cheers! Here's a wallpaper for you guys:

Here's a start. Just implemented... These skull crates will drop in every once in awhile. You can blow them up, but don't stand too near, because anything close (including enemies ) will be blown away. The explosion looks a lot cooler in-motion, because it starts wide and then peters away into the center, and those boards I pixelled come spinning and flying out in all directions.

This really does look great. Will there be bosses/levels, or will it be purely a survival-mode kind of thing? The animated background is so... animated.

I won't give too much away yet, but I WILL tell you I just pixelled something. Something BIG. And it wasn't a good guy Believe me, it won't just be a typical one-enemy-after-another zombie survival game. Shit gets real in this town.

Yup. It's based on this original mockup Pietepiet did for a GB-mockup pixel contest: Originally we even had clouds in the background, but we decided to make the game more hardcore. EDIT: btw, welcome to the forums

Holy crap, your entry was pretty cool. The smaller ships are a bit hard to read for me, but that title screen, the head, and especially the HUD are just gorgeous. We should grab you on board as another pixeller

It's the animations that really bring the game to life, and that's Pietepiet's work <3 Thanks guys
