Haha sweet Smiley Are you planning on making all of them actually play differently? - Also can I suggest you make the feet jiggle back and forth one pixel when they move? And or shrink them in the middle one pixel when they jump?)

Yeah, I am going to try to make them all as unique as possible, at least have a bunch of different "classes" that will make most of them unique.

Also I was planning on little hopping motions.

Are you using any game libraries, tile map editors etc? I started looking at flixel and Tile Studio, not sure if there were any other really easy frameworks to start building platformers in

Just Flixel, with some modifications, like the TilemapSheet and SpriteSheet, and then mappy for making the levels. I will probably add some xml support or something later.

Flixel is really nice and super easy to work with. I really love Actionscript, cause it is so flexible, and it isn't that hard to learn compared to heavier languages like C++.

In terms of progress: I have added a health bar!  Giggle Hand Shake Right

Got done with finals and now working on stuff more.

Got a combat system kind of working now:
http://www.swfcabin.com/open/1261036653

Z for magic, X for slash, and C for stab.
Also [  and ] to test the health bar.

Nothing to kill yet, and the combat doesn't actually do damage anyways, so yeah.

Badass update:
http://www.swfcabin.com/open/1261365326

Z,X,C to use attacks, press "esc" to see what the attacks are.
Only the first 4 characters have attacks right now.
A dummy dude to test attacks on.
A bunch of fancy new abilities with many more to come! :D

Next thing to work on: Levels.

I still dunno if I want to do procedural, which will probably take more time cause I'll add too many things to it, or just make a bunch of straight levels.
I think my best bet will be to make the pre-created levels, but make it so not all characters can go through it the same way. I.E. some abilities let you take shortcuts, etc.

After that, all I'll need to do is finish filling out attacks and character data, and put some ai in so it is fun.

Coffee The AI now attacks you! It is totally cool, and only works sort of. Coffee

Only the first 4 guys have attacks still, and now if you press f9 during the character select screen, there is a level editor that doesn't export unless you're in debug mode.

I am getting ever closer. Just need lots of content now.

Now that I've got a level editor, I should probably get around to making some levels in the scant lessthanaweek I have left. Speed-designing go!

http://www.swfcabin.com/open/1262665070

F9 on the character select screen to enter level editor. ESC for controls.

For right now, "continue" unlocks all the characters, so don't use that unless you want spoilers. About a quarter of the characters have some attacks now.

A hack-n-slash that is gracious enough to give me new characters instead of puny +2 leather armor? You sir drive a mean bargin. It controlled pretty well, and the allure of unlocking tons of guys kept me playing for a while.  Beer!

Agreed.  I love the unlocking of new characters.  The chicken rocks!

Great little game.  I'm sure I'll come back and play it some more.  If I could make one suggestion for a post-compo tweak, maybe have it default your character to the same one you used on the previous stage.

Great job!

This one caught me off guard because I played the earlier alpha... but this newest version is fantastic!

Great job!
