Holy fuck, this game is awesome. Thanks to R.D. and Glyph for getting me into it. I'd say it's better than Earthbound, not sure about you guys.
So, hows about them PIG MASKS?

Could have probably necroed this thread too, but yeah, Mother 3 was a fantastic game, especially for a turn-based RPG, which I don't usually like all that much.

I can't believe that mother 3 hasn't had an official English port. Now I know this is mainly because quite a bit of the music is based on copyrighted works but seriously, for game this good it's worth all that bother. Come on Nintendo!

Oh maaaaan M3
I'm a pretty big fan of it, I regularly lurk around the Starmen.net forums, made some fanart, I like that game a lot!
Honestly wasn't expecting any Mother fans to pop out here, though, durrhurr.

I'm not a big fan of turn-based RPGs. Should I still play this? And why?

Well, its story is compelling and its battles never grind on too long or lose their charm. I enjoyed every minute, something not usual for me in an RPG.

I posted on this earlier and it has vanished.
Mother 3 is classy stuff, but not as good as Earthbound. It's a bit more disorganized narrative, a bit more formulaic RPG story.
Also, even if you don't like TBRPGs, get into Earthbound and Mother 3 because they turn the standard battle system (and video game design and writing in general) on their head and spin them 'til they puke rainbows.

"Puke rainbows" had me convinced. I'll check it out, as soon as I win Minecraft.

This game basically has everything that makes me like games:
The story is wonderfully good. The characters are very memorable. There isn't too much grinding and repetitive gameplay. Gamelength is just fine. On top of that, battles are funny and have cool systems (HP rolling thing, rythm-attack thing). The music is good, and there's a TON OF them. 240+ tracks. The graphics are charming; the pixel art is just amazing. Even tho it's not that much complex. The dialog, holy shit, this is the best part of the game. It just does its work way too good. There are funny lines, emotional lines, tearjerker lines, weird lines. The game itself is weird (come on, there's a bathroom dungeon!) and very original.
It does justice to its subtitle "Funny, strange and heartrending."
Best RPG I've played since Chrono Trigger. An absolute gem that's a must play to any gamer.

Why this doesn't have a 3D interpretation like Zelda, Metroid and Mario I'll never know. It's always been Nintendo's secret masterpiece.

It's still a mystery to me why a game that's so universally praised and a sequel to an SNES classic on top of that never officially made it to the west. I haven't tried it yet, but still..

BAD ASS. And then I realize such a thing will never be actually done. One of the reasons why mockups kind of make me sad.

Are you perhaps implying you have yet to see this?
