Tbh it's my least favorite out of the Mother series. It's fine as a game by itself but it deviated too far away from everything I loved about the two previous games: earth kids, asskicking PSI powers, an alien threat, gripping yet quirky story. M3 instead delivered a SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT theme, transvestites and love powers on fantasy magic island.
Personal tastes aside it's still a mighty fine game.

This is the only game that has made me cry, ever. Also I bought a fuckton of merch from Fangamer. I guess you can say I'm a fanboy. If anyone has an EarthBound cartridge that they want to sell, by all means let me know. It's the only one I still need in the series

I had to buy my EB cart off eBay. Cost like $80 and it's in bad shape. I have been waiting to play the fan translation of this, but I don't want to play it on PC. I don't have a GBA flash cartridge, though... did anyone ever figure out if it's possible to play this through an R4 or similar device? Playing on PC just seems wrong; DS or GBA would be the best. :3 And no, I'm not condoning piracy, but in M3's case I'll make an exception (as that's the only way you can play this in english).

Unfortunately not, you need one of those additional flash cards which go into the GBA slot. Apparently the only way this could work on R4, CycloDS and the like would be through a GBA emulator for the DS. And, well, considering that there isn't even a really well working SNES emulator.. [edit] Oh, hey, there actually is a flash card with a GBA emulator which goes into the DS slot, the iPlayer: http://tinycartridge.com/post/191185004/iplayers-gba-emulator-for-ds-releasedBut, apparently it's mainly aimed at DSi owners, since that one doesn't include a GBA slot. I guess for its price of 40$ you could easily get a normal flash card for the GBA slot, which should be of advantage since the games then won't really be emulated but run natively.

I play it on my Dingoo A320 (opensource handheld device/portable media player). Works great

I never was able to really get into Earthbound, personally... it was mostly the battle system that just didn't hold my interest, I think. I did see the final chunk of the game though and thought it was absolutely brilliant (also it scared the crap out of me). From what I've heard, Mother 3's combat is a great deal more exciting-- I've also just heard nothing but good things about the game. Perhaps it's time I gave it a try. ~Josiah

Well, it is. But it's sad sometimes, too. There's a reason the slogan of the game is "Strange, Funny, Heartrending", you see? It's a good game.

I just downloaded the ROM (I'm sure as hell not paying import prices) and the translation patch. Too bad I can't find my flash cart reader thingie anywhere. Guess I'll try if it works on the GBA emulator on my PSP then.

despite the final boss being really really easy it was still one of the most powerful sequences I've ever experienced in a videogame seriously, that shit's sad

Got myself a Gameboy Micro with Flashcard just for that. Ironically never finished the game for some reason though. I usually quit RPGs when I can't defeat a boss and have to start grinding because I hate that, especially when I backtracked a lot, fought every single enemy and didn't once escape from a fight up to that point.
