Hi,
I'm a writer for an alt news/entertainment/lifestyle newspaper up in Canada. For our pre-xmas issue our assignment is to come up with interesting stocking stuffer ideas.

So, I'm looking for something indie-game themed and figured I'd come up with a better suggestion if I asked people more in tune with indie-games scene than I'm. (And seeing as I'm not in tune with it, finding someone who is shouldn't be hard. Should it?)

Gift ideas I'm looking for would be...

- A subscription service that would give someone access to lots of awesome indie-games.
- A particularly awesome new indie-game that would be a perfect gift for a gamer.
- Some kind of indie-game bundle that would make the perfect gift.
or
- Something else indie-game related I haven't thought of.

When you're making suggestions, feel free to treat me like I'm an idiot who knows nothing about indie-games because that'd be pretty close to the truth. I'm old. I'm square. I have a mac laptop and nothing else. Haven't had a "game system" since the 80s. So I have no idea what's worthwhile or interesting on, say, this "x box" thing i hear the kids talking about.

Please. Educate me. If nothing else, this blurb I'm writing might mean some indie developer(s) will earn a few extra bucks from some Canadians.

Cheers....

How about Machinarium? I haven't played it personally, but it's new and I keep hearing good things about it. It's also (easily) available on CD (DVD?). I don't know about you, but I'm not sure how I'd feel receiving some of sort of download voucher for Christmas. A physical object is always a lot nicer.  Gentleman

Yeah. If whatever the gift suggestion is is downloadable to a cd, that'd be a bonus. But this is a for a "stocking stuffer" feature so I reckon printed out gift-certificate-y things or passwords to gain access to a download or something would be fine.

Valve's Steam digital distribution service has an indie game category, and you can buy games and then gift them to other accounts.

You could give them a subscription to The Indie Game Magazine:

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I have about 150-200 words to work with and will try to incorporate as many of these as possible and a few others I've come across on my own. Have a merry xmas.
