This game doesn't work on my computer. Probably because of the stupid INTEL integrated graphics chip. Stupid computer. I really wanted to try it out.

Actually what happened was that the game booted up fine, but the menu screen was black instead of the white that was in your screenshot, making it really hard to see what i was selecting. Then when i started a level, the game stopped refreshing and then the character smeared across the screen.

One bit of feedback, I could have been doing something wrong but it seemed to me like your menu was controlled with the arrow keys but the game was controlled with WASD. Seemed odd.

Huh. That is very odd. I have not had the chance to test the game on any intel GMAs but it is true their GL drivers are kinda poor so I did not really expect it to work. It seems the hardware actually claims to support the features needed, though - otherwise it would give you an error message on startup. If I find a machine with a GMA I'll see if I can work around it, for now I'll just have to apologise Great music you did, by the way. If you got to the levels you might've at least heard "Precarious Precipitation" played on the map screen One bit of feedback, I could have been doing something wrong but it seemed to me like your menu was controlled with the arrow keys but the game was controlled with WASD. Yeah, I meant to make it so that you could control it with both - thought I did, too, but perhaps that was only for the map. Lack of time, etc. Sorry!

I've only played a bit so far, but it seems really nice, and has got a lot of clever stuff going for it. I am getting some odd graphical errors, though. Mostly it's just an extra area on objects that's filled with garbage, but on the "floating cages" level there was an odd bug when painting: I was trying to paint towards the center of the screen there.

Thanks for the compliments! That does look kind of weird. What graphics card are you using? I really do not know what is up with the artefacts on the sprites, but the paint oddity I assume is due to floating cages not being 4-aligned... Does it happen on any other levels? Crazy Contraption, the Chase and Corridors are not 16-aligned, so it would be good to know if those are broken as well. Again, I am sorry. The GL standard is kind of dodgy and driver engineers are sometimes a bit creative when following it.

This game is cool. Haven't played enough of the submissions to know if it'll get a vote yet, but certainly will make the shortlist!

Thanks, both of you! I'll leave most of the credits for the hard work to Saint though, who did all the programming. Bitworld is really sweet also btw!

It's a pretty interesting game. Some levels seemed to work better than others, but overall it was a fairly solid experience, and impressive for the ammount of time you had to work on it.

Thanks guys, we're really happy you appreciate it. Melly, I fully agree with you some levels work better than others. I believe in situations where time is your most valuable asset and you try a new idea and it does not work as well as you'd hoped, you have two options: either cut the idea and risk having very little or no content at all at the end, or try and polish the idea and risk having an uneven or altogether mediocre experience. For Backworld the idea of the core mechanic came up before anything else. The first half of the development time was spent coming up with ideas to use the core mechanic and implementing the tech required, most of the second half was spent making levels. We did not have an all-encompassing plan of what kind of gameplay we wanted to focus on or what kind of challenges we wanted to provide, rather we just tossed around ideas and implemented what we thought we could pull off within the timeframe. After that we went - perhaps a little too much - with the latter solution of keeping all levels and polishing them, which is why the game might feel a bit uneven or erratic in it's treatment of the core mechanics at times. We will continue working on this in some form and I hope that whatever we decide to make of it a more generous timeframe will give us opportunity to find a focus and throw away ideas that does not fit with it. As such, any detailed feedback anyone would give us would be helpful.

Here's another guy that likes your game! I don't normally like this sort of puzzle game, but the mechanic you guys made allows for a lot of player autonomy and feels very natural. Nice work!

Liked: This is a great entry. Some very interesting game mechanics, and the puzzles genuinely take same thinking to solve. Excellent use of assets, they mesh well with the games core theme. Disliked: Lots of graphical glitches, although not surprising given the time restraints, and the sounds were really quiet on my setup. Conclusion: Very solid entry. Good all-round work, and the assets actually looked like they were made for this game. I can see this getting plenty of votes. A real contender.

Thanks guys!
For those of you experiencing glitches, it would be really helpful if you could write a line or two about what those glitches were and something about your setup, especially what graphics card you are using.
Can't promise that I will be able to fix everything, but if I can reproduce it there is a better chance I'll be able to try, at least.
