I read through that entire story meeting some time ago and was surprised to find that many of the ideas that I thought most brilliant and was sure came from either Kasdan or Spielberg was stuff that Lucas just came up with on the spot. He was quite the creative genius back then...

I'm happy someone mentioned Dr Strangelove, it is in the movies filament together with 2001: A Space Odyssey and Clockwork Orange. Stanley Kubrick was an absolute master. Also in the same league for telling the story is Kurosawa's Ran, Seven Samurai and The Rain is Falling.

Please don't mention Titanic in the same sentence as Blade Runner. One is a horrible blockbuster with atrocious acting and a contrived script, the other is a marvellous masterpiece of aesthetic and visionary Sci-Fi.

Blake Edward's Return of the Pink Panter with Peter Sellers is among the best written comedies I've seen. And from the same time, The Ruling Class with Peter O'Toole is an incredibly well made sarcasm of British aristocracy.

For pure writing and story telling Kenneth Branagh's Henry V is extremely interesting, especially how he handles the problem of the narrator in movie adaptations of Shakespeare plays.

And I too want to chime in with the praise for Raiders of the Lost Ark Kiss

Another movie with excellent writing would have to be Wall-E. So much of the story is told visually that I savor the little snippets of dialogue like this:

"A is for Axiom, your home sweet home. B is for Buy'N'Large, your very best friend."

I was actually surprised how good Wall-E is, for a disney movie. It seemed very... Powerful.

I like the progression in UP more.

Hot Fuzz's writing is exceptionally witty, with little jokes thrown in just about everywhere.

Christopher Nolan's works (The Dark Knight) also have amazing writing, with amazing plot twists (Memento, The Prestige).
