I've been using GameMaker to make a game, it's primarily targeted to Android but was thinking about putting the PC version out there as well.

Ideally I'd just do this using a pay what you want model, but don't really have much of an idea as to how to approach this.

Are people just hosting it / distributing it themselves, is there eCommerce software to handle the payments? Or are you using a desura type of distribution?

Android doesn't allow that 'pay what you want' option, I'm afraid.

Yeah, was more talking about different export options. GameMaker is kinda like Unity in that you write it once then can export to PC / MAC / HTML5 / Android etc. This was more for a PC release for people to be able to pay what they want.

While i haven't really got any concrete examples of how to do pay as you want. I've found a bit more info on selling your game listed below for anyone who's looking for the same sort of stuff:

House on Fire released The Silent Age free on iOS, with a "more" button inside the game that took you to their website, which has options to donate.  Pretty ballsy, hope it works out for them, its a great game.

The original shareware model! But how to do it with a minumum price on a shopping cart is an interesting question. Other than bundle sites, I've not seen this model IIRC.

Good on them, sounds like its a way to circumvent the commissions to apple by handling it all themselves.

Most Android games are < $3. Pay what you want model won't help sales much in that most people will pay minimum anyway.

I mean, the fantasy would be to have someone who's willing to pay $500 for your game, but those kinds of people are doing it for the community more than for the game. If you've got a community up, you can just put a donation option there.
