Will we get a chance to edit our entries ie. Change top screenshots at any point?

On submission I had one screenshot at the top and decided another one would be better, but I probably switched them after the deadline so currently the old one shows.

This was probably my bad--I forgot to put the sort in the JSON feed.  Just fixed this, so the main site will update soon (I think it pulls the feed every 15 minutes).  You can update your screenshots/videos at any time.

Sorry matthew, should have CCed you in the email to Brandon. (Wondering if I should be just emailing matthew anyway, but that sounds a bit needy for just a misunderstanding.)

Anyway. Our guy filling the form (I filled the form for Flightless) stopped at the iOS upload option because there was a message on there saying we would be contacted about how the iOS build is uploaded. So we left it at that.

Now it doesn't say that and looks like quite simple instructions. So we uploaded. I think we're fine but I did ask Brandon if we've actually uploaded something on their end. Just in case the form we're filling out is being funny with us.

edit: As in it not doing the contacting us thing.

Yup, will!  The public igf.com entry list just displays the JSON feed, which is a real-time view into the database (the public site caches the feed for awhile, but any changes will eventually move over).

BTW, that JSON feed is public.  I would love to see people throw down on better lists/browsers/etc.  Here's a fun little random game browser I whipped up in 10 minutes: http://mwegner.com/igf2013/

Alastair awards the IGF awards to Apotheon. I skimmed the entire list and looked at some videos for 15 minutes and it seems like the best one this year.

There are two different orange-and-black-Greek games?

Why is that? Visuals look good but I didn't see anything else that stood out to me as being award-worthy. Gameplay seems run of the mill for the genre.

has a cool art style I guess, but the gameplay seems a bit unimpressive.

quadrilateral cowboy (gameplay) and kentucky route zero (visuals) were the ones that seemed the most impressive and unique to me.

The form converts hyphens into question marks - which is pretty annoying for my writing style. (Might be down to copying from a Word document, so not really an issue with the form.)

Just a warning to people, if you've used hyphens in your description they'll come out as question marks.

-

Aaaand I can't change it. Great. Am I stuck with my silly description now because editing it on the back end won't affect the front end. Unless of course it's waiting to push the changes through then that's fine. If not, what the hell?

Checked it now - it's through. Basically it's that nasty habit that Word has of changing your characters for specialised unicode ones. Normal hyphens are fine - it's not a problem with the form, it's one of Word's gotchas.

Sod's law that I'm the one to break the IGF submission service at every turn. At least for Red Rogue I just entered one sentence and left it at that. Job done.

-

This was useful for finding our pages: http://igf.herokuapp.com/

Would be nice if there was a search feature for entries, given how big the list is. But I understand what a ballache that can be to write. Maybe next year if the submissions keep going up.

The UTF-8 issues are just in the igf.com HTML/display.  They're correctly encoded in the database and when viewed in the judging backend.  I think they're just lacking the encoding tag, but I'm not sure offhand.

The backend has a pretty thorough search/filter mechanism.  To be honest, I don't think writing an extensive frontend is worth my time.  What do you want out of a search that a CTRL-F on that single-page listing cant find?  (Did you watch the

, btw?  It shows off some of the backend flexibility).  I'm hoping people will take the JSON feed to fill in the gaps for public browsing...

Yeah, it was just one of these things this morning when one guy said about the page and we were like, where's the page? So we went to igf.com and were like, ah - do we have to keep clicking through to find it? Where's the search bar? Ah, no search bar. As a casual games company we've trained ourselves to behave like our customers. Perhaps a bit too much.

I appreciate all the work done on the backend though. Would have been a nightmare doing that last year with our crew of Keystone Cops.
