Project Name : Dirty Conscience

Game Type : RPG/T-RPG

Project License : 100% Free

Website : official website

Project Blog : Da Blog

Trailers : Japan Expo Trailer
DC Tools Presentation
Early Build

Contact: Boud : [email protected],

First of all who are you asshole ?
Yeah even if the question was a little akward, i'm gonna introduce myself first. I'm Boud one of the leaders of this modest french amator project called "Dirty Conscience". Since english is not my mother tongue, i hope you'll excuse my pitiful english and silly grammar. Now that the introductions are done, we can move on to the "plat of resistance", the game it self.

Okay.. so what's that Dirty Conscience, a porn website ?

Dirty Conscience is an amator projet of RPG/T-RPG game filled with classical rpg exploration and tactics battles.
Unlike most japanese T-RPG, DC (let's call it DC from now on since we're intimate) does features an "exploration mode" in the mood of classical Japanese RPG's.

Artworks

Some of the artworks and sketches made for the game can be viewed in the website's gallery (french only for the moment) :

http://dirty.conscience.free.fr/artwork.php

Here's a selection for the lazy of you : (click on the picture for full size)

Sly Khoreas one of the main protagonists :

Errouge the sexist brute :

Dexter stealth and picklocking expert:

Felicia a strong headed gal who knows something about using fists :

Irène a charming "dancer" at the Blue Velvet Bar :

Elias a cheating weasel, not to trust :

Background artworks :

3D Models

Here is a selection of ingame low poly 3d models : (click on the picture for full size)

Various Alboris Workers :

Mr Errouge :

The Barman (Fullthrottle powa !) :

Various NPCs :

In Game Screens

These are early screenshots taken from the level we're actually working on. There is no lights for the moment (actually lightmaps), no PNJ's and the level textures are still in progress.

Programming and Tools

The Game is done using Blitz3D, an old engine (it uses DirectX 7 ^^) but sufficient engine for what we are seeking (minimum immersion that is)

Our main programmer ghent created a specific tool surprisely called DC Tools, that we use for the level design of the game (it works quite like an RPG Maker editor).

TECHNICAL DEMO 2007 + NEWER SCREENS

For a frech video game festival, we did a small technical demo, that you can download by clicking the image below :

It's only a technical demo thought, and all in french, so it's not relevant plotwise but it give a glimpse about the exploration gameplay.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's also some screens of the new version of the "Crawling King Lizard" BAR, that we're redoing to add a little more personality to the place :

We Need You !

If you feel you're crazy enought to help us out, here is a list of what kind of help we could use :

- 3D low poly modelers (characters, backgrounds and objects)
- Texturers with a style similar of our own (for graphic homogeniety)
- 3D Animators to bring life to the models
- Programmers still working with the ancient Blitz3D
- Webmasters
- SoundDesigners (Music and sounds what did you expect ? farts ?)

Thank you for reading this post and do not pay too much attention to the poor english please Smiley

Wahaha, you amuse me :D!
However, the second Felicia thumbnail, the URL is missing a '.' so it leads to feliciacowjpg, when the proper link is feliciacow.jpg.
T'would appear you're primarily looking for worker bees, but being that this is the feedback forum, I will give feedback.
Concept art is GORGEOUS, sho' nuff. Not much to say here.

On the 3D renders, which are really, quite nice; I commend your art team, but, uh, anyway, the second Errouge picture is borked, don't work, but on the first of his pictures, it's quite nice, has a lot of personality, but the chest seems kind of plain without the mechanical belt in the concepts.
the "Bitch" is nice, but the panties don't have edges as defined as the rest of the clothes, giving it a weird look, like they're just painted on there.
On Ouvrier2, I'd thicken the socks things, so they look like they're more of a connector between the shoes and the pants, like it's a waterproof suit, made for working in toxic materials or something.
And ze' barman, he looks really plain, which might not be a bad thing, it's just, like he's a side character. Not sure if that's intended.

Oups, links problems corrected, thanks

And I'm actually looking for feedback so thanks for the post and taking time to make "good critics", that will help us improve things.
(even if nothing is said about the game here, i did try to translate the description universe in english but...hum.. how should i put it...it sounded stupid with my poor english :D)

As for the barman, yup he's just an avarage NPC, that's why his design is so "simple"

That looks pretty awesome Smiley

I don't know what you're doing about the plot side of things - but if you want, I'll proofread the English version.

Hey, Boud!  Good to see you finally posted about your game. Wink

What can I say other than it looks cool and I want to see more.  Perhaps it's a mix of Anachronox and a bit of L'Incal?

Although I couldn't find the trailer at the link you posted.  Is this it?

Thanks Derek ! We've already been compared to Anachronox or Nomad Soul but it's the first time L'incal comes out ^^.

Very nice stuff! I appreciate that you're committed to making proper tools. That's a good idea, especially since you have such talented artists.

Absolutely gorgeous ! The arts and graphics are really stylish, you have talented bastards in your team !

I love tactics games, especially the Nippon Ichy titles (Disgaea and stuff) and I'm glad to see that you changed the setting (it's always Heroic Fantasy or Japan fantasy style in most of those games, except Front Mission maybe)

I'de love to know more about the game, you really plan to make an english version of your website ?

P.S : I love the guy with the playboy eyepatch :D

Wouch it seems this topic has been abandoned for a long time :p

I tried the demo altought I really like it (it took me sometime to figure out the controls) i really didn't get any of the dialogue since it's in french. So I just took a little trip in a french only RPG (reminds me of the old days where I was playing japanese RPG's with absolutely no japanese skills) and didn't play much since I didn't know what to do.

So how is the project going, are you finally planning on doing an english translation ? Should we expect a new Demo with battle soon ?

I'm impressed that Blitz could pull off a game that looks like this. The only game I've seen from Bliz before is MDickie's games, which aren't known for their visual quality. But I suppose it's all style/artistic difference rather than technical difference between his games and this?

Anyway, this looks really nice.

If i'm correct Blitz3d is an old engine that uses DirectX 7, so it's must be down to "artistic difference" since the technologie is the same, or maybe they made a better use of the technos available. I'm wondering why they chose this engine, were they looking for a "ps2 rpg look" or what ? (Not that I'm complaining I'm not very found of those "next gen titles")

Somebody should seriously try to make a PS1-look RPG again, like Chrono Cross and FFIX. Those looked great.

thats something i can`t just understand. Blitz3D is not a beast but not as shitty everyone see. It just the user don`t seem to push it. i know it, i have a license and i was on a French blitz forum for some time.Just take a look at a b3d Game called tecno and you`ll seeé. Anyways DC is one hell of a good example of what can be done with B3D with a talented team.
