Get the game ($5): http://itunes.apple.com/app/aquaria/id469372252?ls=1&mt=8

Trailer by Kert Gartner:

We just launched Aquaria for the iPad! It was ported by Andrew Church, who really did an amazing job. Semi Secret Software (Adam Atomic's company) handled the release.

The game feels very much "at home" on the iPad with touch controls. Kind of strange when you consider the original came out so many years ago!

Hope someone with an iPad tries it out and enjoys it. Feedback is always welcome.

Looks like it will be potentially more pleasing to play on the ipad. Will give it a go Smiley

Good to see this finally hit the store, great work by Andrew Church porting it, must've been a lot of work!

Looks good you guys, I've informed all my iPad-owning acquaintances.

Yeah, I think it's a possibility, but just talk at this point.
Come to think of it though, I'm not sure if it would work well on the Iphone due to the screen size and the high-res nature of the art. The game would probably require a freaking microscope to see anything.  Wink

I hadn't played aquaria before other than a bit of the demo.

About the port (rather than the game, that ye've both heard enough about by now I'm sure Wink ).

I'm not such a big fan of the controls.  They only work for me if I have it set down on a table and both hands free, rather than holding it with two hands and controlling it with thumbs (kinda what I'd prefer).  Having to worry about my arm blocking my view isn't great for me.  (and also it doesn't combine to well with the auto-fire button - if you had "tap anywhere else to autofire" be the default it might feel better?  I tried for a while playing in bed with the ipad propped up with one hand, and another used for controlling, but it was also awkward.  I'm waiting for an invisible virtual joystick to come to the rescue.  (though I can probably suffer through the game as is now that I know how to play it Wink ).

The multiple save system doesn't make sense to me (at least not yet).  I'd have it autosave when you get to a crystal and leave it at that.  Maybe there're points that you'd want to save at in case you are faced with a DILEMMA, but it feels like a bit vestigial.

I'd allow a greater zoom-in range on the map.

I always feel slightly put-out when an iPad game tells me that it's best with headphones.  I'll be playing most of aquaria without.

Placing of markers on the map felt a *little* fiddley, and once placed I didn't know how to delete them (except to move them far into the distance).

That's all I can think of for now.  Good work, you all - it's pretty slick : )

Bought it (again), playing it, loving it. It's crazy how well the controls port over to the iPad. Almost as if they were designed for it in the first place...  Who, Me?

If I had kids I would want them to play this game. The atmosphere and music are just brilliant.
