I hope it's okay to pimp my own tutorials here, if not I'm sorry.

I've had a ton of requests for tutorials on how to make games in flash, and the most I've seen promote completely horrible coding practices. So I wrote some of my own.

They're all based on using free tools (some of which are windows only) so it's easy to follow along.

I've got parts six and seven all typed up and ready to go, but suggestions for coming parts are very much appreciated. Also, if you find any inconsistencies I'd be happy to have them pointed out to me.

Thanks for posting this. I started learning Flash a few months ago but haven't progressed very much so this was worth reading through. It didn't have too much that I didn't know already, except that I did not know you could embed symbols from other .swf files into a Flash program, that should be helpful if I want to create a vector-art game in FlashDevelop (I'd assumed it'd be hard to do that without using the Flash development environment itself to make a game). One problem I noticed in your tutorial was that you use it's for its a lot. I know this is a common problem but it still makes it less readable to me. For future parts, I don't have any preferences, I'd recommend just to focus on things that are generally useful and not covered in other tutorials I guess.

One thing thats bugging the hell out of me is when I'm trying to run the very basic "Hello World" app. When its compiling it it doesn't display "Hello World" at the bottom which the tutorial says it shouldd.

I've tried ddownloading one of the Flash Standalone Debuggers and using that but it still won't work! Any suggestions? I've triedd v10 andd v10 of Flash Player, quite annoying :/

EDIT: Holdd on, never mind! Got it working, I included a ':' where I shouldn't of! Gosh darnit, I'm sure I double andd triple checked it!

Anyway, nice tutorial!

...I am hungry for more parts! It has been educational so far -and you are correct there is a dearth of AS3 tutorials using Flex/FlashDevelop.

It is strange that there aren't more tutorials available considering that the dev tools are now essentially FREE!

I've been looking for this sooooooo long  Crazy

I'd like an AS3 tutorial, you know one of those where they make a small game and let you follow step by step. I'm pretty sure it's out there somewhere, so if anyone could direct me to it I'd be thankful Smiley
