Nintendo will have its custom siri/cortana assistant = princess peach (due to nintendo cracking down on peach porn recently http://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-issuing-dmca-takedown-notices-for-pornographic-fan-art/ )

before answering more specifically about momentum: How do you picture momentum gameplay? I'm interested how you understand that, I might learn something Smiley

Hmmm... I'm not sure, let me see.

Speed is something you need to build up, over distance or time. Making momentum a sort of a temporary resource that you're invested in maintaining so you don't have to reacquire it.

To maintain speed/momentum you need skill (reactions/timing/level-knowledge), the more skill the better you can maintain that momentum.

Having high momentum allows you to do things you otherwise couldn't (move faster, jump farther/higher, reach new places, beat the level quicker) or just keep engaging with the main gameplay (like doing tricks in skateboard games)

I think what I like about it is that incredible flow is possible, but you have to earn it with practice and skill.

only interested in NX if it's literally a handheld you can connect to your tv. i don't need a nintendo brand tablet, i already have a samsung one that i only use for uni.

also, if this thing really uses tegra, how will games like zelda be playable on it? i mean im not that familiar with how powerful the latest generation is, but that seems like a step down hardware wise from the wiiU.

I guess I should be glad that I thought he meant digital as opposed to mechanical or something until I saw people talking about it below

the potential downside to digital games (in the literal sense) is that it's way too easy to fall into the feature creep trap and design bloated and unbalanced systems. physical games require players to both understand and enforce the rules in order to play and as such tend to have much more elegant rulesets and get streamlining much more right.  Noir

(not that im dissing complicated rulesets, some games benefit from those)

That's it, but with one more nuance, sonic is all about the sense of adventure, hence a lot of secrets, multiple alternate path and "set pieces". It's very unlike mario in level design philosophy, it's pretty much a skate park more than the careful mechanical building of mario. The level feels more organic too, less "constructed" while being very logical and designed, the apparent chaos fulfilling the adventure fantasy drive. You won't find obvious puzzle platform like in mario but more like "opportunity" to switch. Even bonus expend control toward improvisation instead of careful path planning (as in to progress casually). Mario tend to veer toward collecthon (get the 8 red coins, the yoshi coin etc ...) where there is only one puzzle way to get the tricket, in sonic the tricket (emerald mostly) are tied to loose random entry point, for example you don't have to collect all the big ring (sonic 3) or the checkpost (sonic 2) or all the ring (sonic 1) which give you more opportunity than there is tricket to access them, you don't have to get them all, so finding them is more of an opportunity reward rather than a mandatory grind. It makes exploration more interesting than mario, you have consistent reward progression (the emerald) yet none of the stress of combing the map except for curiosity, unlike mario that nag you with feeling incomplete, in sonic finding a new secret feel like arecheology, ie the real pleasure of finding new stuff.

The thing with at least the fan game I showed is that it has element of cool fluid speed path, but also alternate

From the guy who made amazing video about gamergate, adventure games and phil fish as an icon (innuendo studio)

I don't agree with everything, there is a reason sonic endure where copy paste as failed, in spite the quality of latter game.

CoffeeToast Right Hola!

So I've been thinking a lot about language lately, like how sometimes the way we say things can often outweigh or override the meaning behind what we are actually trying to say or even outright contradict it.

One off the top of my head is the title of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. I notice a lot of the resistance against the movement hinges upon that title (for example, with the retaliatory #AllLivesMatter that sprang up in response to it). I am not saying the resistance in this case is entirely because of the title, but it is definitely a focal point point for the opposition. I've also noticed that there are a lot of people not really opposed to the ideals the movement stands for but misinterpret what it stands for because they don't realize #BlackLivesMatter isn't meaning "only black lives matter" or "black lives matter more", etc.

I wonder, though, with one minor change could dissenters focusing on the title still hold their ground as well as they think they do. If it was #BlackLivesMatterToo they really couldn't counter with an #AllLivesMatter or whatever argument, at least not in the same manner or as effectively. The shift in language would put dissenters in a much different position, they couldn't make the claim that #BlackLivesMatter is to mean "black lives matter more" if the movement was called #BlackLivesMatterToo because "too" already implies that other lives matter and that black lives do not matter more, they matter equally (too). It'd probably clear up things for all those confused as well. It's crazy that the entire dynamic could potentially change just by adding one word (too) yet doing so would not change the meaning of the title at all (as #BlackLivesMatter is already meant to mean "black lives matter too").

Anyways, with my writing this focus I've had on language has been helpful but I've also been reflecting a lot on what I say to my wife, kids, friends, etc. because I am catching myself saying a lot of things that when dissected in retrospect don't seem to reflect what I am actually trying to get across or seems to only confuse things and it is all because of my choices in wording. Most of the time small tweaks to what I am saying is all it takes to get a lot more impact, so I've been practicing stopping myself before speaking and thinking about the words I want to use.

That aside, I've been playing Grand Kingdom (PS4) and various tactical RPGs while studying the shit out of board games, card battle games, etc. as I work on my latest mutant creation. How're you all doing?
