Thought it was time I started a devlog of a new football game I'm developing called Tiki Taka Soccer.
Whats the game?
Tiki Taka Soccer is a 2D football game for iPad and Android tablets. The game engine and control's are specifically designed for touchscreen. So that means no bluetooth controllers, on-screen joy-pads or tilt.
Art style
Visually Tiki Taka Soccer uses pixel-art. The combination of small pixel-art sprites and a zoomed out camera (even further zoomed out then the classic Sensible Soccer) compliments the controls as you can see nearly the whole pitch. Planning moves and spotting runs of players is really easy.
The game
We love New Star Soccer and the Kairosoft games so in Tiki Taka the focus is on a player-manager career which provides a RPG style hook to accompany the footy action.
You take on the role as player-manager and start with a crappy team. The aim to take them to the top of club football. You play the matches and also manage the team focusing on the fun stuff - team selection, tactics and every match you earn cash (more if you win and score goals) which can be used to buy better players.
As well as earning cash each match you as as player-manager gain experience. This can be used to improve your manager abilities. These abilities then directly impact your team. For instance if you improve your fitness training ability your players will recover from matches quicker.
Also at higher levels the abilities give you one-use-per-season powers. Using fitness again as an example - level up enough and you gain access to the 'faith healer power' which can be used to instantly heal an injured player.
There's also a random element to each season - we generate positive and negative incidents alongside your fixtures. They fit into a number of categories (such as injuries, media, financial) and again effect you, your team or the opposition. These will be based on the crazy world of football so imagine players doing stupid things (fireworks, drinking, gambling etc) to managers (bungs, affairs etc) and everything in between.
Ideally these incidents will be updated regularly to reflect real life situations that take place in football but we shall see.
So far
That's about it really, currently in the final stages of finishing up a quick match demo build which allows you to play as two teams and is a demo of the controls and game engine. This demo will be released for free on the app store and will launch alongside a Kickstarter to fund the rest of the game.
Videos
Created a little teaser trailer and a demo vid of the controls as they quite hard to imagine when I describe them!
