Hello!

I am making a game called SpringCombat using Java. It is all about configuring your space ship with weapons, modules, thrusters and shields in order to win battles and complete other challenges.

Here are some video links:

The graphics surely needs some work. The current rendering is done with Java2D but the plan is to use OpenGL.

BTW, this is my very first post!

Thanks Chromanoid!

I hope to create a game where you can win by being clever when you build your ship and/or have good fighting/flying skills. It will be a tactical/puzzle element when you configure your ship for different challenges/battles.

There will be no cost for selling/switching equipment or changing the hull, you simply distribute the resource points that you have available. The player is rewarded resource points after completed levels. Completed levels can be played over and over again to gather resource points if the player finds a level to difficult or just wants to get bonus for achievements.

Thanks!
The ships will have different materials for the hull which will provide some color. Solid objects like ground will have trees, houses etc. that will also make it look better (perhaps Smiley ).

looks just like space rubish except the big things to shoot are shaded instead of wireframe!  Thats not a bad thing cause space rubish is tight!!!!!

That's good to hear!

I hope that it will look even better with textures that are per-pixel lit like the experiment I made in

. Some specular reflection will look good too Smiley

Thank you! I like the music in the video too. It comes from YouTube's audioswap list so it is unfortunately not used in the game, but something along the same line might be used instead.

My plan for the music is to make it reactive, but I have discovered that it is a very difficult area if you lack composition skills:
