MarsCorp is a game that allows players to build a colony on Mars. I have been working on it on and off since 2010. In 2010 I was laid off from my second studio job and decided that I wanted to go indie. I founded SynapticSwitch, and started working on MarsCorp.
There have been 2 limiting factors in the development of the game. First, I am a coder, and depend on others for the art. Since we have no budget, we depend on volunteers. So far we have gone through about 3 waves of artists and currently have an artist who is making some progress.
Since this is a self-funded project, we depend on contract work to pay the bills. Unfortunately, the needs of the client often outweigh the needs of the indie developer. We have been so busy with client work it is very difficult to find time to make our own game.
Speaking of "us", there are two people working full-time at SynapticSwitch: myself and my son, Stephen Madsen who joined me in 2012 after a stint at another game studio.
So, that's it for now...more in my next post.
