I loved the way this game looked, it was so cool.

Why can't they make more like that? Legend of Mana had its irritating points (some stages were incredibly hard to find your way around in, for example), but it had this wonderfully surreal style in the art, characters and dialogue.

When we're at the block puzzle games, I must mention Puyo Puyo

The original version on SNES was really great! I didn't like very much the overcuteness of the GBA ones. Also the musics were best on SNES.

Seriously, no one's posted this yet?

Oh, and even weirder that no one's posted this:

It's more stunning than charming, but the game is quite silly in many ways.

I would've gotten a better qaulity picture, but this one has Fio.
FIO.

VERY YES

This game came along right as I went on a huge trip. It was a life saver, and I love it like a son.

The psuedo 3D in that game was so awesome. I want to make a platformer with that idea of 2D graphics mixed with 3D gameplay. (That is also why I love beat 'em ups. The possibilities of 3D combined with the simplicity of 2D.)

What game is that?

Alex Kidd in Miracle World, the most famous game for Sega Master System.
Also, Alex Kidd was the first SEGA mascotte, yes, even before Sonic.

mine:

Heart of Darkness

Little Big Adventure 2

Fade to Black (Flashback sequel)

and more to come

I always thought that Alex Kidd was better than Mario because I could relate more to motorcycles and rock paper scissors than I could to mushrooms and plumbers.

Heart of Darkness

YES TIMES A MILLION
I adored this game, even though I sucked at it.

Thinking back, I think 90 percent of the things that killed me did so by eating me.

Eewwwwwwwwwwwwww, vore game!
Wait a second... Would any of the Kirby games be considered vore?

Oh, and I just looked up some gameplay footage of that game on Youtube, and from the video I saw, I was quite impressed, the animation was quite fluid!

HoD is scary as hell for a kids game.
Really hard, too.

Yeah, the animations were one of the best things about the game. Not just their quality but their quantity too - pretty much every way to die in the game has a unique animation.

Looking at the graphics now this may sound crazy, but as a child I always thought the Commander Keen series had a certain atmosphere... I was always somehow fascinated by them as a child and can remember them perfectly to this day, although the graphics are somewhat shocking in places  WTF

Another game from my childhood on our first family PC (which I damaged during an infuriating game of Lemmings as a 6 year old) was Heartlight. This also seemed to have something about it to me, probably because it was such an addictive little game:

Oh man, I'm replaying that, as we speak.

It had some really cool pixel art, mainly the black monsters.

yeah, all the deaths here:

they are SO COOL, best death animations ever, and even if the game is hard and full of stuff that can kill you at every frame you just keep playing to see more awesome stuff (and deaths)

Hmm, we've been interested in Fade to Black. Heard MIXED things, though. Reccomended?
