Hello and welcome to the second devblog (and first on tigsource!) for SparkShift! We are creating a 2D puzzle platformer game called SparkShift, and we will be documenting our journey here as we go!
Download release v0.5 for Windows/macOS and try it out! We want to know what you think! (

What's New?This week we focused a lot on playtesting our levels and polishing the visuals and sounds of the game. We've updated our introduction to be shorter, created a new main menu screen, improved our animations, and added a whole bunch of sounds all over the game. The feedback on our playtesting has shown that we sometimes need a little better guidance to help the players figure out the mechanics without revealing too much immediately so that the players can get satisfaction when solving our puzzles.
What's the Motivation? We made most of these changes to help with the immersion of the game. We ran into some issues with most of the game looking great, but having a few small instances that really took the players out of the experience. We want to make sure that the players are interested and focusing on our game without getting distracted by a bunch of small mistakes with the visuals.
What's Next?Next week is our final deadline for SparkShift before our showcase on April 22nd. With that being the case, we're hoping to get the game to a pretty polished state soon! One bigger thing that we're hoping to get into the final version is a final room for when the robots escape the factory! We also do hope to continue to work on this project into the summer past the showcase and continue to improve SparkShift!
