I tried to fix the link. I mean no border around portrait and long border around a text. I hope you will find it here:https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t2ZRARwlV4Q/WZ3nTNI6LqI/AAAAAAAAF0E/P3H6fUHvu_oisPGcVZqgMPnpV2z-0mnWgCLcBGAs/s1600/Screen-Shot-2017-08-21-at-6.08.28-PM-600x461b.jpg

I see! Thanks for the example. That does help the monster blend into the background much better! Hm, so many options...

I love the surrealist style in the game. Are you inspired by the art movement at all or any specific artists?

Thanks! Well, I love Moebius (French comic artist) and of course Hayao Miyazaki, who are pretty surreal, I guess. But video game art is the main art movement I like, haha. Let's see, I also like Ivan Bilibin and some other artists but I don't know if it has much relation to the game...

Am digging this SO hard. Your portraits look great, and you definitely improved Foofter's a lot after working on the shading, his is probably the best one now! The gradient-ed speech box works for me, it's subtle but adds that needed contrast. Don't change your style for anyone, it's you and this game and its perfect

I think I wanna try a gradient just behind the character instead of across the whole bottom... And I started inserting the portraits into the game and it's making a big difference! Pics coming soon.

Once I'm done I want to start the final playtesting since the game is basically done (besides polish), so let me know if you're interested!
Count me in I haven't played any of your other builds yet so I'll be able to go in fresh!

the portraits do look pretty awesome! i have never been a huge fan of do whatever you like because there's no OVERBEARING STORYLINE kind of games but this game has a lot of personality, and personally I think MR.Bobo is an A+ name choice :D

The game is actually pretty linear, so you can't really do whatever you like. It's just linear...with no story. Haha. Maybe a kinda loose, hidden story but more like you go through a series of things and respond to them how you want. Anyway, thanks about "Mr. Bobo"! That name seems to be a hit with many people. It was inspired by the film "Cop and a Half," where a man goes to a bar looking for "Mr. Bobo." I also had a college teacher whose last name was Bobo. There are even other Bobo characters in the game!

the last boss of the game should be the legendary Bobo Senpai B-Bobo Senpaiiii!! But actually, there IS an amazing, surreal, freaky anime called Bobobbo-bo-Bo-bobo that is for some reason totally unknown but totally amazing!! I recommend checking it out!!

Implemented monster portraits in most of Seedling 2. It took awhile cause I had to make some variations for color changing monsters as seen below, and move all message windows to the bottom of the screen (I had put them all at the top for some reason). Here are further samples: Mel (the turtle blob monster in the last pic) is the mean character every dating/friendship game has, and I never like, but I guess some people go for that. And I didn't want EVERY character to be nice. Sooo...how are my portraits?

There are now portraits in Seedling 3!Even for the other Bobos! The only problem is that until now portraits were unique to playable characters, but now random NPCs have portraits, too. I thought it might be too confusing or annoying if it makes you think they're playable when they're not... (Of course, I'd like for all characters to have portraits, if I have time...) Out of these three bullies for example, only one is recruitable, but I just went ahead and made the other portraits since they were just pallette swaps... I guess I have a lot of text, but going through the game line by line and choosing an appropriate face each time is actually an arduous task. But so rewarding. Gotta finish adding them and then it will finally be time for ~final beta testing~ I can't wait...

Okay, all monster portraits are in the game! And once I make the third portraits for each monster they'll be auto-populated in. ...I'll have to repeat this whole painstaking process once I get monster noises, but I'm just not gonna think about that now.
