Alright everyone; here's the first Photo Challenge! The theme is Game Arch; buildings/places in your cities/locations that strongly remind you of settings in videogames! I got the idea a couple days ago while taking photos in downtown Winnipeg, and noticed how one side of this apartment block in Chinatown really looked like Mario platforms. So that's my entry. Mine is probably on the more clearcut end of the spectrum, but don't hesitate to take some liberty with this. Really, the theme came in no small part from my occasional guilty habit of viewing streetscapes as potential gamespaces. So if you see some market that makes you think of Street Fighter, or a big box store parking lot that you really think makes sense as a No More Heroes boss fight arena, then take your photos and make your case! Just post your photos in this thread; the deadline is the end of the month. After that, everyone will vote and the winner will have 1 week to start a new photo compo. If after one week the winner hasn't started one, Jrsquee, Nava, or I will start it (hope that's ok guys...happy to edit this if not ). Really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Love it! I'll head out with the camera this week and see what I run into (Winnipeg is full of post-apocalyptic settings; perfect for games!)

I think weekly comps would be better than monthly, personally
I will draft some General Rules For Photocomps, perhaps?

Excellent theme. I totally wish I knew where the charger for my little digital was I could probably think of tonnes of these.

I'm sure I saw some once. But then I forgot, maybe.
Kind of a shame the most modern camera in this household is a pre-digital era one. We should get a new one!
That is a nice photo.

Nice photo, and an excellent idea. I'll see if I can find any places of my own.

I'm totally fine with that; definitely create some rules for these.

My entry! I was forcibly reminded of Prince of Persia and barely overcame the urge to climb it. Fort Gary Hotel, Downtown Winnipeg. (less obvious examples are on the way if I get around to it)

Crud, I totally forgot about this at the weekend! I'm sure I can find somewhere suitable around Cambridge, I just need to take the time to look. When's the closing date for entries?

End of the month, but if there aren't enough entries by then and people still want to go and shoot, then I'd be open to extending it.

There's a building a couple of developments away (bike ride distance) that- I swear to got- has a brick Mosaic of Gomez's face on the side.

One excruciatingly long and sweaty bike-ride later, two towns away, three hours later, I find the Gomez head. On the way home I pass a factory with a pile of crates in the front. I do so love games with crates.
