Well, this looks goddamn awesome.
Just when you think you've seen indies do everything, we get Train Management Sim. Sweet.
How long have you been doing it, and when is it ready?

Three months until now. We plan to release it into early access next year when the core game mechanics will be implemented. We will also release playable prototypes / demos along the way to gather the feedback on them. Routing comes first next week .

Good to see you are anticipating the long game in terms of production - if you've got a mailing list, or if you could make one - please do so, I'll follow along.

Checkout out a blog post about manual routing. You can also try it yourself in a web build. We are now working on the dynamic contracts as well as on the start of the career mode. More demos will come in a week or two.

My first impression is this looks something like a more sim-y version of Mini Metro. I really like this version of simulation...a lot of rail games focus way too much on the actual trains and minutiae as opposed to the logistics which is what scratches my itch

Yeah, we heard a comparison to Mini Metro couple of times but the truth is we didn't take any inspiration in that game . We were inspired mainly by the rail dispatcher simulators. As they are not games we aim to transform this genre into a tycoon style game with building, upgrading, operating etc. with the big focus on the logistics (as you've wrote).

Looks very interesting. Based on what I've seen of this, it looks like most of the gameplay revolves around managing the routes while the trains are already moving? Is there anything you manage before/after the trains start moving? Like a pre-planning stage.

Managing the train routes will be the only one part of the gameplay (and it will also change throughout the time from the manual routing through various automated interlocking systems to fully automated system player will setup). But you will need to build / upgrade the railroad connections, signals, station platforms, depots etc. You will accept the contracts that will create the traffic and also manage various aspects of the logistics (shunting, locomotives maintanence, platform boards etc.). We will post updates with demos on these things when we have them implemented .

This game looks amazing and is exactly what I've been looking for since I played Rail Pro on my Acorn Archimedes. I can't wait to play it.

We added contracts to the game to overcome the pre-defined timetable that has serious limitations for building-based campaign mode. With contracts, the timetable is built dynamically as the game progresses. Each contract has a trial phase – the player routes a “prototype” train to reach given stations so a timetable is recorded for all subsequent operational trains for this contract. The player obtains payments for routing the operational trains and is penalized for their delays relative to the prototype. Demo will follow this week! The third demo of Rail Route is out! We intended it to demonstrate how contracts work. You will find quite a big rail network inspired by Prague railways to prove your dispatcher skills. Still no building & research. Any feedback is more than welcome! What else would you like to see in the game? Download on our blog: https://railroute.bitrich.info/2018/06/15/demo-r0-3-released/

Next demo is out! This time we want to show you the campaign mode. This will be the core game play when finished. It's in the early stage but the game is getting a direction. Try it out and tell us your feedback! Share it with us and you will receive the complete game for free when finished! More on our blog: https://railroute.bitrich.info/2018/11/23/demo-r0-4-released-from-the-beginnings/
