They should've made a hardcore mode where your budget is so shoestring that piracy becomes a viable distribution method because the other option is that your game languishes in obscurity.

Even if so, it does nothing to defeat the point.

Blue game-developer needs food badly.

ok message (at least they didn't try to do that with stupid drm that did it to everyone when it broke),
ok idea (haha clever),
not the best execution (it still equates piracy with lost sales and total failure over time), and not the best ones to be doing it (game * story)

Self-righteous inconsistent rip-off of Game Dev Story? A+++++ Would not give a shit again. 10/10.
So, I'm all for no DRM, but there message seems a bit muddled. Piracy is only a major affect in the pirated version? So, they don't think piracy is a big enough affect to have it be a large part of the non-pirated version?
I mean, I get the irony, but either they think it's something major and important and it's in both versions of the game, or they don't think it's something major and thought it would be funny and only put it in the pirated version. I'll leave it as an exercise for the class to figure out which one it is.

I like the idea.
Unfortunately, when 90-95% of the userbase is playing a broken version and there is no explicit message to indicate that that particular version is broken, there's no incentive for them to purchase. "Why would I pay for this broken game?"

this isn't an idea to get more sales
it's an idea to get back at people you dislike
you will never get a sale by handicapping your own game and giving it to people.
in fact, it's going to probably hurt sales. if a friend tells you "this game is impossible, don't bother playing it" are you going to ask, "hey, man, did you pirate it? be honest, now!!!" no. you're just going to be less inclined to buy the game.
this is incredibly stupid, and i might even feel bad for them being so stupid, if they weren't also uncreative, self-righteous asshats.

Oh yeah the thing itself isn't marketing, but I think making a blog post about the thing with a link to buy the game at the bottom might be.

I love the concept - having a fake cracked version of your game with minor tweaks. I love that they're catching people red handed with it. I love the clever stat collection.
But the implementation was a little naggy. Nagging as in trying to force someone to feel bad about something they already know is bad.

don't let me vote for cactus because I'm physically unable to vote for anything else if cactus's in the game stupid greenheartgames for not adding IAP to the pirated version.
Indeed, that'd be the smartest move

Indeed, that'd be the smartest move let's map a rip of gam dev tycoon that's a rip off of the game dev story and put pirate IAP into it. now that would be a game with pedigree.

and distribute the CD -Key-Cr4cker separately, for sadism.
