So I'm currently downloading the Unreal Development Kit and I'm going to do a little playing around in it.  Who here has experience with it?

I'm coming from a background of Game Maker and little more than that, so I'm sure it's going to be a little heady for me, but I want to see what it can do all the same.  I hear it's pretty intuitive once you learn the basics though.  Wasn't undertow made by rather inexperienced programmers?

Anyways, who likes it or hates it and why?

Unreal engine is easy, here's what you need to get started:
learn to use unrealEd, this is the control tower of UE, that's where you import assets and do stuff.
Learn to model with a good modelling program.
If you want to code, learn Unrealscript (very similar to Java or AS3)
That's what you'll need for a start.

Google for unrealWiki or Hourence tutorials.

It's alright with some hiccups. You will probably want to code and digging into their already exisiting code can be pretty overwhelming.

Kismet has some weird bugs you have to work around and it can get pretty frustrating, but it does yield results:

.

Good luck!

(p.s. Hourences was our teacher on that project).

UDK came along and I was delighted, and probably one of the very first to download it.
Then I found out that its resulting games would be Windows only.
