SHIT, SON.

I don't know. This is an experiment. I'll change my name back if everyone gets all uncomfortable and weird about it.

Can't you just put your name in your sig with some info on what you do/did and keep the nickname everybody on forums recognizes you by?

Eventually I could try that too. This is just an experiment, after all.

SHIT, SON.

Don't you like cake anymore?

Professionaly I can't speak of being known at all, but my Internet name is also my initials, so my case is similar to the ones listed by Dock. I haven't used it for too long yet, though.

If you google my handle, you'll find all sorts of amusing stuff, such as some blog called 'average gay joe'. Ace.

Don't worry, I still like cake -- I just also have a real, grownup name.

My Quake name (now used for XBL/PSN) has been "TheManOfBronze" for a decade or so, but on forums I tend go by my real name. It's easier to remember, for one thing, but I do miss people yelling "look out Bronzey" and such in BF1942 Smiley

I may as well join this experiment. I'm trying to find a good username anyways, and I've got a pretty unique last name.

Make hiding your real name part of the illusion! Lemony Snicket-style.

I use sereneworx because I've used it for so long. But right now I'm slowly transitioning into using jeanes, the second half of my last name.

Don't you change your avatars as well, or we'll have no clue who you are!

/edit I'm halfway in on this. I need my work stuff to be #1 on Google, and I know if I use my full name my TIGs profile will be the #1 hit in about 3 seconds.

/edit 2, in case that sounded incredibly egotistical, I should say that I'm the only person in the world with my name, so having the #1 hit is not much of an achievement.

There are hundreds of Marius Schneiders, but I still used that name for Skullpogo.

I have been "Battlerager" for years, so I won't ever change it.

Battlerager is Marius Schneider.

Marius Schneider is Battlerager.

Wait, Bennett, you're a Dr.!? (google'd) I remembered you saying at one point that you were a philosopher, but that's crazy!  (Actually, it's probably less crazy, as philosopher's don't really have a place outside of academia, and thus a doctorate is just another stop along the road).  Well, bioethics is getting more relevant each year, so good choice of sub-fields!  Smiley

I'll bet you most people who played QWOP would be astonished by that little fact.  :D

And in terms of the name thing, I'm in the same boat.  The last thing I'd want as #1 is my TIGS profile, and without a doubt that's what would happen, as you get almost nothing on me when googling now.  Plus, given that lack of results, I'd kind of like to manage my online exposure as much as possible.

I'm really amazed by how many people have changed names as a result though.  I guess this is just another one of those things that make TIGS a really unique place online.

Yeah, I'm a philosopher. Not much point in trying to maintain the anonymity given that my website has both things on it now. Hello, internet stalkers from my old high school! Hope your lives turned out to be happy and fulfilling!

The reason this experiment is interesting is that we should all start being nicer to one another, according to John Gabriel's Greater Theorem.

Good point; that said, there was a lot less nastiness on TIGS than most places online to begin with.
