It's hard to beat Heart of Darkness for sheer deathiness. Practically everything in that game had a new way to kill you. Now I think about it, the whole game was pretty disturbing underneath its kiddy exterior.
Also, the HoD video was cool, but it's kind of creepy how all the 'related videos' seem to be vore fetish stuff...

Excellent thread! Now, I must find all those cool Game Over screens somewhere...
I always liked Death from Conker's Bad Fur Day on the 64, the Super Punch Out retire screen (very moody), the possible way to kill your characters in Maniac Mansion and the car explosion in F-Zero on Snes. I just need to find some screens or vids... I'll search around...

It's not a surprise as it comes from the same guy who did Another World. Remember all the very detailed deaths in that game? (the pool tentacle, the beasts, the slugs, the lasers,etc,etc...)

Those Space Quest deaths are pretty outstanding.
AND YES! Another World. Wow, the ways that killed you. Wonderful game though.

Metal Slug 3 had also loads of death sequences (including, but not limited to, horrible plant mutiation due to spores, eaten by piranhas, transmuted into gold, zombified and afterwards slowly descomposed and incinerated), albeit most of them were short, specially given the nature of the game. Too bad I don't seem to be able to find a video for all of them.

I lovvvved that game. Have it on my computer, and still haven't been able to get outta the water cave. I was always paranoid that something was gonna eat me whenever I would play it. I was usually right.

Nah, we never actually got very far in the game. Also, I think the video I posted is from a different game in the series to the one I've played. The way I remember it there was only one gay-ass purple disco demon on the game over screen.

Someone should have mentioned Oregon Trail by now. I'd do it myself but I've never actually played it, just heard about it from others. At my school we got to play Stunts and South Park Mario :D
