I love the sounds of the computers beeping away in the intel rooms in TF2. It really makes it feel like there's a lot more to the bases behind those huge windows.

I don't know why, but I always found amusingly hypnotic this combination of boing fwop fwop fwop in Super Mario 64.

Actually, I've decided on my favourite sound effect of all time: the sound of inhaling an air bubble in the classic Sonic games. It really doesn't sound like anything like breathing, but it will always be the sound of gulping for air to me.
