Playing collectathon platformer Fly'N, and am up to the 2nd world. This game is seriously kicking my ass, especially the 2nd bonus stage in the 1st world, (the bit with the fire guy where you need to shoot up past all those cannons). The graphics, music, mechanics and challenges are all well done and takes me back to the Banjo games and Seiklus with how fun collecting stuff is

My copy of Infinite Space for the DS just arrived. For some reason it's a really rare game. Saw some people selling it for north of $150 on eBay . In any case, space opera + non linearity + Platinum Games sounds very promising. Anybody played it?

yeah me. it's actually a lot more traditional than you'd think and there isn't any kind of journal or anything so it's extremely hard to pick up again once you stop playing.
it's decent but jrpgs aren't platinum's forte lol

Yeah, I remember rants about the lack of journal in reviews. Seems really stupid. Still, it was interesting enough to warrant a buy. So far it doesn't look very good, though. Battles are pretty awful. You either have to watch lengthy sequences or skip them and don't know what happened.

This is actually really, really good. I got a score of 25%. There's a lot of crap to find.

what? I found it to be pretty terrible. bad controls, incredibly simplistic and boring gameplay, and annoying sound. the animation and presentation is mildly interesting, but it would have worked just fine as a flash video. better actually, as I wouldn't be forced to play through the extremely bland gameplay to see the cool images.

It's a really cool game, but got too repetitive for me after a while and I never finished it. Now I kinda regret it.

It requires a lot of thought on how to efficiently move through the levels, since each of them have several hidden collectables to find before you run out of time. If you're playing through just for the sake of completion, the game offers a compromise for missing some of the princess keys by letting you try to smash the locks before time runs out.
The design is great for keeping the player moving forward to completion, while offering a player trying for score a challenge to do all the tasks before they're involuntarily shuttled to the next scene. I never had a chance to get bored because I was always under the gun to get something different done.
The only bits I didn't like - having hearts seemed pointless, since it was just as easy to restrict the player by making them run out of time if they took too many hits. I didn't like how talking to NPCs interrupted the music, which otherwise kept playing and really set the tone. It felt like a playable montage in a lot of ways, which was both cool and unique.
The fact that this all came out of what's really just an advergame is the biggest surprise.

Even though it had Skrillex in the name, I actually quite enjoyed it. Having to get those treasures and scroll pieces, and getting that very center scroll piece was pretty cool. Also, the glitches were cool, with the things they leave behind, and how you fight them in the final boss battle. I didn't get the 4th princess key or any treasures yet, which I'll get to. The music was tolerable, they included mostly non-wub bits and made the wub bits quiet or softer.
