Thanks for the feedback everyone. HM - I took your advice and added an extra shade to the stone, looks much better now I think, thanks.

Update: Updated stone and wood materials. I also implemented block "decorations" which are extra little pieces that get blitted randomly over blocks, like the cracks in the stone bricks below.

Been a while since I checked up on this, I love where the new art style is going!

I'm trying to shift to a longer devlog update schedule, hopefully I'll be able to restrain myself to do one per week.

Update: This last week I've been focussed on overhauling all the blocks, and this latest screenshot shows what some of the new types look like. The plan is to get all the new materials in, the new sprites, the new backgrounds, etc., and then I'll be able to get a good idea about whether it all fits together or not. I'm also trying to take a more relaxed attitude towards the graphics. I originally intended Moonman to be gameplay-heavy and graphics-lite, but somewhere along the way I got those two mixed up, and so with the current style locked in I hope I can focus more on the gameplay.

This new style is looking great.  I really like all the different variations in the bricks and wood, makes it interesting to look at.

Awesome! The new block decorations really add a lot!

Very dense and atmospheric look, nice color palette and lighting... everything's coming together so beautifully...

Thanks chaps!

Update: Last week I finished most of the remaining blocks off and drew the new backgrounds. Here's two of them (click for max size). I'd like to make the forest one more complex, but it'll have to do for now! This week I plan on updating all the sprites to the new style, which means changing some of the colours etc, adding a little more detail etc.

Wow! Looks really good.. Smiley

I was unsure at first because I liked the old style, but I think now this art direction is the way to go.

You still need some more shades though (on the brick tiles, tree trunk, mountain background) Wink

Excellent graphics, yeah! I really like those rocks and how they fade to black. It's really high-contrast!
