i dont really consider guilty gear/blazblue pixel art. mostly because a) they use absolutely no pixel techniques aside from LINES UND SHADING and b) because they are meant to be seen with AA added in or they look sort of shitty
Neither BlazBlue or Guilty Gear have AA. Sorry. there's automatic AA added in. check the options in one of the games and you can turn it on and off (at least you can in accent core) Oh I was talking about the arcade versions (that's mostly what I play). I've barely touched the PS2 version and I've never seen it turned on if it does exist.

Oh wow! I really love these! But why is one screen isometric? Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland I'm quite sure the background art and such are 3D objects turned to 2D, a lá Donkey Kong. I didn't particularly like the graphics Nightmare in Dreamland, but that is also because of the claustrophobic feeling the tiny GBA screen gives.

Agony Looked up this game based on this screenshot. It looks really lovely and the game looks pretty fun - I'll have to check this one out more. Thank you! 3D objects? They look like 3D objects to you? I think they look more like painted scenes.

Ooh yeah, good call on Actraiser 2... it's just a shame there was no sim mode.

Oh wow! I really love these! But why is one screen isometric? Star Ocean Blue Sphere has a lot of different perspectives (iirc: Boktai, Beat 'em up, Zelda-like, isometric..) using THE SAME OVERWORLD SPRITES and it still looks right. Check the link Xion posted, the dudes made a complete analysis on the tilesets etc. I guess the game designers and artists just felt like doing it.

It's odd, while the sprites and tiles of most of the games posted here are lovely in themselves, almost every screenshot looks crowded and really difficult to read.

I kinda think the same too. Games need some sort of visual coding to be more than just nice to watch. That's why I have a preference for 8-bit games in general.

We'll miss you, Ronnie! EDIT: Darius II, not only because the individual elements are very well done and incredibly imaginative but also because it runs on three screens stuck together which is just dead sexy. Curse you forum borders.

I'm just gonna whore myself out a little, but the monster art in Pokemon never ceases to amaze me. Also, Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure. There are not enough good things to say about this game.
